Hi....

My name is Kyle. Im 18 years old, going to a great college next year. I like raves and such.

I recently had a depressive episode where i was in a bad mindstate and was very down on myself.

i thought it was ugly, awkward, and had low self esteem.

however, after attending my first raves, some things changed.

i met new people. i was more social. i was able to be more happy.

however, due to my depressive episode (i dont think im that depressed anymore, became more accepting of myself), i ended up punching a hole in the wall of my house (parents house) which i fixed.

due to my behavior i have a counseling appointment with a counselor tomorrow for depression or something... i really dont want to go since i feel a bit better but they want me to.

what should i do? should i go? i dont think it would solve anything.

go. a) it will put you better with your parents, b) you might end up finding out that you are not over some of these issues...counseling might actually help you. if it doesnt, god bless, but you shouldnt feel embarassed or upset that you might need someone to talk to

Go to the appointment and explain that you were just feeling a bit down and frustrated (nothing unusual for a teenager) and you have come through that experience the better for it, that you are now looking forward in a positive way and would like to just move on with your life and not get hung up on one isolated incident.

Thank the councilor for their help and concern, tell them they do a fantastic job in the community and you respect them for that but you feel their limited and overstretched resources would be much better directed towards someone who really needs help.

see how that goes down :)

It's worth giving a try. You might find something in counseling that will help you, so going into it with a negative attitude will prevent that. I suggest you go with an open mind, I know that having a counselor has been improving my life, and honestly the first time I went I didn't actually want to go.
