ok, so i know most of you would be like "why the hell would you ever do a benzo after successfully quitting cold turkey?" and my answer is, my friend has ONE rophynol he has leftover from a trip to mexico, and ive always wanted to try it, and he's more than willing to give it to me. the thing is im just scared that if i take it, i will somehow, in some weird way, go back into withdrawals. however, i haven't had one withdrawal symptom in MONTHS, after being off them since january. I just want to try the "roofie" and never touch the shit again. so my question is, does anyone think me taking the one roph will send me back into withdrawal??? if it even has the slightest chance of sending me back into that hellish state, then i wont even consider it. feedback is greatly appreciated

It won't put you back into wd. But it's gonna set off cravings like wild. It's general never recommend to use your substance of choice after you conquer your addiction. It is possible though...

Did you have a psychological addiction to benzos or were you just physically dependent on them? I would recommend you don't take the roofie either way but definitely not if you were psychologically addicted

It has been shown that reintroducing a benzodiazepine even years later can precipitate post-acute withdrawal syndrome. I wouldn't recommend trying it. Your one night of fun could turn into months of hell.

why would you do that? Oh yeah, because you want to get high. But where did your drive to get high take you last time?

Yeah, I've been really hesitant to take it, he still hasn't even been able to find it (which is a good thing). And to answer the questions about if I was addicted or psychologically dependent, and I'd say it was a little of both. When I first started with benzos, it was to relieve the anxiety caused when I wasn't able to get opiates, since I had great insurance at the time and was able to acquire multiple scripts of whatever benzo the dr would give me. For a while I was taking them to get high, but after a year, I was taking them because I "needed them" for my anxiety. Since I have quit, I haven't had one craving for a benzo, and didn't have any desire until my friend mentioned the roofie. It really is a gamble. I forgot to mention, I'm on gabapentin (3000 mgs a day) and suboxone (16 mg a day) both from my doctor, since I'm taking those, does anyone think my desires/craving to want more the day after would be lessened? From my experience, gabapentin saved me from benzos, I was contemplating suicide during the withdrawals from benzos after quitting cold turkey, then was given gabapentin and never looked back. Also the thing with the roofie is that my friend only has ONE, and has no ability to get more, nor do i. It's just that I hate alcohol with a passion, but still wanted to get fucked up in some way on New Years. With this extra info added, does anyone think it's safe? I can fight the cravings, it's just the physical symptoms of getting sent back into withdrawal that scares me. I never want to go back to that, EVER. I'd rather cold turkey quit a decade long heroin addiction than even cold turkey quit benzos after a months use. Another question I have is would I better off just taking some somas on New Years ? Since I have taken them recreationally many times and they're the only thing I've managed to actually been responsible with. Any feedback would be appreciated. I'm new here and already feel welcomed, so thanks for the responses I've already gotten.

Go with the somas if you have to do anything. Taking one Rohypnol wont send you into withdrawal but itll almost certainly make you want more.

Somas aren't much better, they're GABAergic as well.

Honestly if you're taking 3g of gabapentin a day... I don't know what to say. I don't even think you'd feel the full brunt of the roofie if you're taking that much GBP...

But if you're taking GBP, you're far less likely to suffer from PAWS... but if you really need that much GBP... it sounds like you've been in PAWS and had no idea because that's way beyond normal therapeutic range bro.

Yeah I don't know, it's just what my psychiatrist prescribed me, because he refused to taper me off kpin, because I had quit cold turkey 4 days prior to my appointment and he said I should be fine because I "already went through the 72 hour detox." Resulting in him prescribing me that high of a dose of gabapentin. I know
I'm not in withdrawal though because I don't take the gabapentin everyday, and I certainly don't take that high of a dose everyday. There's days, sometimes even a week and a half that I don't take gabapentin, so I'm fine with withdrawal. Idk, I honestly probably won't end up taking it, and my friend most likely won't be able to find the roph, when he offered, he told me he has no clue where it is and he didn't know if he'd find it. So, I won't take it. Thanks for all the advice, and in the unlikely event that I do take it, I'll post the results if anyone cares to look. Thanks again

And about the somas, wow I did not know that about them affecting the gaba receptor.
It's crazy too because I have take them on occasion throughout this year (I just found about about them this year) and I've even taken them early in my recovery with benzos and have had no ill side effects or withdrawal symptoms, thanks for letting me know though, I'm now going to be more cautious if I ever take them again. Wow I've only been on this site a few days and I've learned things I never found in all of my extensive research about these drugs

Yeah soma is a prodrug for meprobamate which hits the GABA-A receptor but its not mediated at the BZD site, it acts more like a barbituate if I remember correctly but either way, its GABAergic.

You'd be amazed at all the things that are GABAergic. If it calms you down and isn't an antihistamine, there's a good chance GABA is involved somewhere. Even chamomile tea has been found to be GABAergic (obviously much less potent than the pharms but it still brings the point that GABA is involved in so many things and generally if it has to do with calming, you'll find GABA action somewhere down the line).
