Bedtime Stories (written as lyrics to one of my songs)
I close my eyes, while I try not to hear
Any of your words that may reach my ears.
Drifting away, I'm almost asleep.
That's when I hear that same old story repeat.
The setting's different, but the people don't change.
Familiar faces, just with different names.
Same plot as before, but in different context
My eyes still closed, I can see what comes next.
You can tell me the ending,
but I've heard it before.
You can tell me the ending,
I'll listen once more.
I drift off, and your story's my dream.
Just as you planned, the main character's me.
Scene by scene I live the story out
Exactly how it came out of your mouth.
But I'm skipping your ending
'cause I don't like how it goes
I'm changing your ending
This time I'll go home
And why can't you... Let me have my own dreams?
And how can I... Pull out of this redundancy?
Now I don't have to lie awake
My dreams are no longer yours to take
I started telling stories of my own,
With happy endings, and visions of home.
