Beating my small addiction

Hello everyone. This is my first post here. Let me give some background. I had been prescribed 5mg oxy on and off for surgeries, and other things. I had tore my knee up pretty bad years back, and really enjoyed them then, but didn't get hooked. about a year or so ago i had a friend who could get them. he would get 30mgs he would give me 1-2 and Iw ould break up into 1/4s. taking 7.5 here or there. Again not really addicted. Then i started to get more and more.

Now I take pretty much every night. I ONLY take these at night. I take between 7.5-22.5 (3/4) of a 30. since I have been taking every night I have gotten bad withdrawls from stopping. The worst is the night time sleeplessness that really makes me feel like crap. The following day I have somes sweats and other issues but nothing terribly bad. I guess since what I take is not in such high doses.

Anyway, I was just wondering if anyone had any advice for me on how to quit. Like I said, its a small addiction since I believe I am taking a small amount. I know its still an addiction none-the less.

One main question I have is...if I want to skip a day of taking, what I will do is take something about 3pm....then at night I can fall asleep no problem. When I wake up I feel kind of crappy but not bad. However I am not sure if the 2nd night I will feel the insomnia and difficulty sleeping. I have sleeping pills I could take for this but they never work on the first night, as that seems to be the worst for me. I am thinking of cutting down to only 1/4 or 7.5 per night and then just ween myself off since that seems like it would be easier.

Any help I appreciate it.

Hey mikemustang and a warm welcome to BL :)

Sorry to hear your struggling. But your seven days away from freedom from physical dependence. Here are some medications for you to exsplore to help you with the withdrawls. You can do this!!

medications for acute opiate detox

The medications I would explore the use of for detox would be:
>Clonidine< DOSED EVER FOUR HOURS.. (four you I don't think you will need to do such a strong regiment)

one of either
>NEURONTIN< >HERE< >HERE< >here<
OR >Lyrica<
OR >phenibut<

>A BENZO BUT JUST AT NIGHT<
>a nsaid<
>melatonin<
tylenol
Senokot S is a stool softener and laxative. If you do not want the laxative you can go for strait stool softenerDioctyl sodium sulfosuccinate.

(Opi Withdrawal) what is the best comfort meds for opiate w/d?

Your Personal Opiate Withdrawal Arsenal

I'm at about the same dose as you except I have built up to that lvl over the past 4 years of off and on use. At the point you are at it wouldn't be too bad to stop cold turkey, if that isn't something you want to do then you could try tapering.

Cracking pills into pieces for dosing isn't very accurate. For the taper I would dissolve the 30mg oxy into 10ml of water (scale up as needed), this will create a 3mg/milliliter solution. You will probably be better off dosing either one larger dose at night or two smaller doses throughout the day. Try decreasing 1-3mg per day or every other day until you can jump off at 1-10mg

I was able to get xanax. I don't have a problem with the physical symptoms, its mostly just the first and 2nd night of sleep. I was hoping if anyone knew if xanax helps with the restlessness and always needing to feel like you need to move etc. during the first few nights of WD

So I took a .25 of xanax at about 830, laid down around 9, I did fall asleep pretty easily, but woke up at 1030. Wasn't sure if this was because I need to use the bathroom or because our daughter woke up. decided to take another one, and it knocked me out till about 3am. This was because the dog woke me lol

Anyway, best part is, there was no insomnia or bad w/d that I had felt at night. Pretty sure it was the xanax that helped since its the only difference that I had made to going to sleep that got me past the w/d insomnia and that crappy "brain racing" type of feeling when I had stopped Oxy.

So to me, it does work. I don't plan on using often, just that if I ever find myself taking again for a few weeks on end I will be able to use the xanax to get through the nights when I stop. I might take tonight just to get another night of better sleep

I was on a high medical dose of roxi's and oxycontin after an intensive chest reconstructive surgery a couple years ago. They slowly decreased my dosage over 4 months then when it was time for me to come off I was instructed to split my dose throughout the day, not to take a large single dose. At that time I was taking around 25mg/d so they had my take 5mg 5 times every 4-6 hours or so. then every 2-3 days stop taking one of them until your off which might take about 2 weeks, maybe less if you want to do a faster taper. They told me to not mess with my night dose until last because it would disturb my sleep and sleep deprivation can make withdrawal worse.

Some other things that might help:
antihistimines: OTC: benadryl/doxylamine succinate. moderately strong sedative to help you sleep that are not addictive.
dextromethorphan (DXM): I've seen some research suggesting it can help with withdrawal symptoms and pain but I don't know how much you would need to take for effect.
muscle relaxers: help with sleeping and muscular pain.
antidepressants: (personally I hate them)
vitamin/minerals
I heard creatine might help but I'm not sure.

Since I can sleep ok after taking Xanax for one night. How many nights before I can stop the Xanax and sleep without anything?

If I was you I'd just experiment. I know for me sleep is the LAST thing to come back.. Usually I'll just let myself suffer a couple nights and by the 3rd or 4th night (after my physical symptoms subside) I usually get one night of beautiful sleep. Then I try again til I have some semblance of a sleep schedule back

thanks. I took a xanax last night. It helped me sleep fine except for the sweats.

I am just curious how many nights I would need xanax before the restlesness and insomnia stop. I guess I will have to experiment like you said. thanks
