Basifying DPT (hcl salt to freebase oil)

Im going to have access to some DPT very soon and I'd like my virgin experience to be via vaporization.

Anyone know of a good tek for DPT hcl--->DPT freebase?
 
^ Interesting that you post this question. I was just experimenting with DPT basification & vaporization. Also, good call on using vaporization for your first trial. It's very efficient, and it's also the shortest-lived high that you can get with DPT. This is ideal, considering DPT's propensity to cause very intense and sometimes frightening trips, because you can test the waters without committing yourself to hours of tripping. Not to mention how uncomfortable insufflation is. :|

Anyhow, I got good results by first dissolving 50mg DPT HCl in an unknown but small quantity of distilled H2O, in a little glass vial (a little heat was required). I then added 10mg NaOH, which is a slight excess of base, just to be on the safe side (remember -- DPT first, base last!). As soon as the NaOH hit the water, thick milky white clouds permeated the solution, indicating precipitation of DPT FB. Then I squirted a bit of naphtha in the vial, capped it, and shook it vigorously until the milky white water began to clarify (again, heat was required for this step), and siphoned it off the top. It took three such naphtha "pulls" until the polar solution was totally clear again. I then took the nonpolar solution and evaporated it in a baking dish with a fan. It resulted in a thin layer of clear, slightly amber-colored oily fluid, which was transferred (with much difficulty :|) to my vaporizer, and smoked to great success. :)

This evening I plan on following the same procedure, but performing a freeze precipitation in a small shotglass, rather than evaporating the naphtha on a baking dish. I'm hoping this will circumvent the annoyance of recovering the freebase from a large surface area. Will report back on results.

Why not just evaporate the naptha IN a glass pipe? You just pippette in your desired quantity (since you'll know the concentration, if you know the quantity of naphtha used - or let ALL the naphtha evaporate, then redissolve in acetone or similar, which evaporates more easily), and after waiting, bam, perfect dose. I've done this for various compounds, HU-210, CP-55,940, other things which I couldn't waste etc.
 
^ That would be the best way to do it, if you're using a standard meth pipe type piece. It never crossed my mind to simply evaporate the NP solvent *in* my vaporizer, since I'm vaporizing it on a little disc of copper mesh, rather than straight off glass. But, you've just given me an inspiration for yet another experiment -- try and evaporate a concentrated naphtha solution on the mesh itself.

I'll have to measure how much naphtha the mesh disc can hold before it becomes too saturated, and starts leaking. Let's say it can hold three drops. I'll use a pipette to add three drops of DPT/naphtha solution, let it dry, add three more, let it dry, rinse & repeat.

Theoretically, it seems like the most promising solution. I tried my above-detailed procedure again today, this time evaporating the NP solution in a little shotglass instead of on a baking dish. The result was that it was easier to transfer DPT FB from the shotglass to my vape than it was from the baking dish, but still a major pain in the ass and I probably lost 10% of the batch.


I can't believe how quickly I'm going through this 500mg bag of DPT. Although I've wasted a fair bit with failed experiments. Better order some more. :D
