Beyond the beyond.
Do barbiturates affect the benzodiazapine receptors or binding sites? I'm having trouble finding out. Specifically butalbital, but to find out about barbs in general would be helpful, because they have been helping my migraines very much.

Thank you for any responses in advance.

If I understood correctly benzos alter the frequency of certain neuro channels opening & closing and barbs alter the duration of those same channels being opened or closed and not the frequency of their opening or closing. Though it is not simply thus, and each have many differing receptor affinities and effects of course, if another may be so kind as to enlighten with their more specified erudition on this class of drug.

If I do remember correctly, barbiturates have greater receptor affinity than benzos, but overall, less euphoria/recreational effects.

Reminds me of heroin and buprenorphine's affinities to the mu-opioid receptor.

Bupe is a mixed agonist & antagonist, I wouldn't draw a comparison as being quite the same. (taking the antagonism effect from buprenorphine; or what the closest molecule structure that would do that is, would be an interesting yet completely unrelated topic.)

same receptor (mostly) but a different binding site to benzodiazepines

Thank you all. I am now sober, and I have been prescribed Fioricet for my migraines, and it works quite well, but I told the doc not to give me benzos or opiates/opioids. I do not feel high off of the butalbital, I figure the amount in the Fioricet is small enough that it doesn't really have a recreational effect. At least not for me. Don't wanna accidentally relapse.

BTW, just got my 30-day chip yesterday, and it felt great! I'm not getting complacent, but still, I can't believe I'm actually doing this thing. I didn't know that life existed. Real life, anyways. Now I can go to school for pharmacology, and not flunk out or fuck shit up.
