Opioids Banger migraines from high doses of oxycodone and/or oxymorphone?

Anyone get these? I have read the description of rebound headaches, but it doesn't really match with what I have read. My tolerance has gotten pretty high and so have my doses. I am a once daily user. I usually mix up my doses each day so I am not taking a peak dose every day. Recently when I take my peak doses I get one fuck of a headache for about 4-5 hours (quite disabling actually) when I dose high. The headache usually occurs about 5 hours after dosing...coincidentally about one half life. I get them mostly from oxycodone, but got one from oxymorphone last week too. I usually eat my oxy and snort the oxymorphone. What are these headaches are from and will they stop until I have taken a break from opiates? Been using about 4 months now, but not heavy as often as recently.

I would be safe and get an MRI, because these migraines are presenting in a new fashion without having previously been there - this is just a precaution, but fairly standard when dealing with migraines. My guess is that the opiates are simply causing the migraine headaches, probably by releasing so much histamine throughout the body, which does play a role in migraine headaches. Try this, if you are continuing to use opiates, take 25 mg Benadryl (diphenhydramine) about an hour before your dose; I know your headaches begin after about five hours, but I think this might help. Just be careful that you are not too sedated with the opiates + sedating antihistamine (diphenhydramine). On the topic, it is not at all uncommon for migraine headaches to respond very well to antihistamines such as diphenhydramine in certain cases. It makes sense that such would reduce swelling, and thus reduce pain. Hope this helps some.

Happened to me whenever I dosed high, generally in the same time frame. Usually extremely debilitating as you stated to the point where moving my head made me vomit.

I would dose lower, been there bro it was debilitating enough for me to cut back a little. Also those icy migraine patches use to help me a lot.

It is probably important to note these high doses were not really getting me where I wanted to be either which I still am perplexed at. I know all about tolerance, but still didn't make sense. As I cut doses to taper since I was getting nowhere and spending a lot, the headache went away. I am currently off opiates now for a much needed break.

Yep, they'll do it for ya!! They do it to me anyways, not every time though. Oxymorphone was worse about it for me but mainly when I was coming off them. You may want to get it checked out anyways though. I have migraines and funny enough that's how I get my oxy's is because of the times my regular migraine meds won't work.
