Bad trip on "MDMA"

My friend and I took a 100mg dose and were feeling great. About an hour after our initial dose we took 200mg each. I was fine until I reached for the bong and took a time of some marijuana. I am not usually a marijuana smoker.

About a minute after, when the pot set in and I was just coming up on the second dose of MDMA I started to hallucinate. I was terrified. I believe I was having "Serotonin Syndrome", It felt like a fever and my heart was pounding hard and fast. I was completely disoriented and though I can't remember much from that night, I was apparently out of control ie. Physically violent and unaware of my surroundings.

I feel I ruined my friendship with those people and brought on a host of psychological problems. I am socially isolated now whereas before everyone loved me. In the aftermath I am experiencing heart problems. My blood pressure is low, my skin is cold and grey. And on top of that I am fatigued and disoriented, constantly tired and forgetting things. My mind is in a fog.

I feel I have damaged my heart and brain permanently, it has been 3 months since my trip and my situation has hardly improved.

What should I do?

Firstly, be aware that unless you tested your MDMA, we cannot be sure that it was indeed MDMA. There are a lot of other drugs passed off as MDMA which tend to have nastier side effects. If you still have some of it, it may be useful to test it so that if it indeed was something else, you can adjust the actions you take next accordingly.

Still, an MDMA 'bad trip' is perfectly within the realms of possibility, though some here may try and tell you otherwise, and especially on such a large dose. 300mg is a LOT, and considering you only took the two doses an hour apart it will have still mostly all been hitting you at once.

Cannabis is a powerful potentiator of other drugs and can cause anxiety and panic symptoms in people even when used on its own. These effects are even more likely if you are not a regular user of cannabis and even more likely still if you are under the influence of another drug, especially a somewhat psychedelic and stimulant drug like MDMA which also plays powerfully with your emotions. It seems like you may have experienced cannabis-induced anxiety and panic whilst under the influence of a strong dose of MDMA, and I can empathise with how difficult an experience that must have been.

It is highly unlikely that you experienced serotonin syndrome. Serotonin syndrome is a serious and potentially fatal medical emergency that would surely land anyone experiencing it in hospital not long after onset.

The effects you describe that you're going through right now sound perfectly within the realms of normality for the aftermath of one of these MDMA 'disaster trips', they do happen. Would you mind elaborating on your usage history of MDMA? As this could also be a contributing factor in the effects you are feeling right now.

The best advice I can give you is to avoid all drugs, and I mean literally all of them including alcohol, maybe even caffeine, anything which is psychoactive (for example, paracetamol or ibuprofen aren't psychoactive so no need to avoid those). You should also exercise, something like jogging for an hour each day would be good, and eat very healthily. Try and get as much fruit and vegetables into your diet as you possibly can, avoid anything with added sugar and get plenty of high quality protein (legumes, nuts and seeds for example), and eat high quality carbs and starchy foods so wholemeal breads, wholegrain rice, sweet potato instead of potato, etc.. Drink plenty of water. Maybe take an omega-3 EPA & DHA supplement.

It may also be useful for you to see a therapist, as this should accelerate your recovery. It may also be worth asking a doctor if you can be checked over to ensure your physical health is fine.

I appreciate the replies and I will see a doctor. I believe I now have an irregular heart beat (cardiac arrhythmia) as a result of this trip.

Fixed my post formatting might be easier to read now. Definitely go get checked over by a doctor
