Bad batch of heroin in NSW

Some great posts. Another thing which I think this highlights is the need to try and make sure you have someone with you as often as possible when you're getting on. And if you can, get your hands on some naloxone (which can be prescribed by a doctor) to keep on hand in case an OD occurs.

Man and woman charged in SA over alleged trafficking of toxic drug fentanyl

A man and woman from Port Vincent have been charged after police allegedly seized the highly toxic drug fentanyl, the same substance reportedly found in a mislabelled bottle in Prince’s home after his death.

Fentanyl, prescribed for severe chronic pain associated with surgery or cancer, is a fast-acting, highly potent synthetic opioid reported to be “50 to 100 times stronger than morphine”, police said.

Its side effects include disorientation, respiratory problems, unconsciousness and death.

Police say there have been a number of deaths in South Australia and across the country linked to fentanyl.

“Contact with even a minute amount of fentanyl carries a significant risk of accidental opioid overdose,” SA Police said in a statement.

“Fentanyl is so toxic that it not only places drug dealers and users at serious harm but carries a significant risk to friends and family who may accidently come into contact with it. Investigating police also face the genuine risk of accidental expose and overdose.”

The couple were arrested this morning after a raid on November 18, as part of a wider investigation involving the Australian Federal Police, SA Police and the Department of Immigration and Border Protection.

Operation POST was commenced in 2014 due to the spike in psychoactive substances sold on the dark web.

The pair, both aged 31, were charged with trafficking a commercial quantity of a controlled drug and trafficking a controlled drug.

They have been refused bail and will appear at the Adelaide Magistrates’ Court today.

An autopsy found music icon Prince died on April 21 from an accidental overdose of fentanyl.

US media reported pills containing fentanyl were found inside the bottle of an over-the-counter medication inside the pop singer’s home. He is not believed to have had a prescription for the drugs.

(of a substance or plant) causing or capable of causing death or illness if taken into the body.

I'd say it qualifies. Of course by that definition all opioids do, but if any deserves the label, it's fentanyl and assorted analogues.

What I really want to know is what that black gunky looking stuff is in the top-left photo.

Same.
The spray bottles in one of the photos makes me wonder if there is any evidence of them dealing, or if they simply imported too much.
A pile of empty spray bottles makes me wonder if they are addicts who ended up with massive fent (or fent analogue?) habits.
If that is the case, i hope they don't get dragged over the coals too badly.

On the other hand, if they were selling fent as smack, fuck em.
The article is very light on details of the charges and what they relate to, so who knows?

Yeah it's hard to say, they were charged with "trafficking a commercial quantity of a controlled drug and trafficking a controlled drug," but I'm not sure whether they actually have to be caught selling the drug for that charge to apply, or if it could be applied just for importing a commercial quantity internationally (although that seems like it would qualify as a different charge).

That said I doubt they were selling it as heroin - there's barely a market for heroin in Adelaide, let alone somewhere like Port Vincent. Most likely scenario is importing for their own use and maybe selling some on the side to fund their habit.

It is less toxic than tylenol/panadol.

How do you figure?
