B. Caapi Foliage Potency

So, this is a thread about the alkaloids concentration in B. Caapi leaves as compared to stem/trunk which is usually used.

My main concern is whether, let's say for example 50-60g of B.Caapi foliage contains enough alkaloids. I've already read a few topics on other communities but found no definite answer so far. Some people say that compared to the stem, leafs have higher or same concentration of alkaloids, while others claim that the foliage doesn't have enough alkaloids... So, unforunately, a safe conclusion cannot be reached.

Of course I am aware that it also depends on the specific plant and that concentration generally varies.

I don't have a definitive answer, but unless you have a specific reason, I would stick with shamanic tradition and use the stems/bark.

I haven't come across reports of historic or contemporary preparations of ayahuasca that used B. Caapi leaves while excluding the bark/stem.

I did find this reference
In Amazonia, the dried leaves of Banisteriopsis caapi are smoked. The Witotos powder the leaves and smoke them as a hallucinogen.
, but smoking the leaves is a separate topic entirely...

he leaves in fact do have a significant amount of actives - some analyses report more by weight than the vine. (Although perhaps the conflicting reports is due to variation in the amount of actives in different samples.) The Pastaza Runa Indians use leaves instead of stem material if they don't have enough of the latter, and the Napo Runa Indians routinely add a few leaves to the brew. But the leaves are much more tannic than the stems, and a leaf-based brew with enough leaf material to be active is hard to keep down long enough to take effect.

I just want to gather as many reports as possible..

Just wondering if it would be worth smoking Banisteriopsis Caapi or some other dmt containing plant??
.. i know you can extract and its not too hard to do but its still a bit of effort getting the bits i need to do it... plus if some tribes smoke it and trip major balls then surely its possible cos i cant see them haveing 200 proof alchole at hand for extraction lol...

I don't think it would be possible to smoke caapi and obtain an active dose of DMT. I'm not sure if the natural salt form of the DMT would be active smoked like freebase DMT is, and I'm almost positive that it's not feasible to inhale and hold in the sheer volume of smoke you would need in the short timeframe required. This thread is also three years old and about a different question... Next time you have a question like this, either look for an appropriate Big and Dandy thread or start a new thread.

By the way, you don't use alcohol to extract DMT for smoking. You need to convert the DMT to freebase, then isolate it with a nonpolar solvent. If you use most anything but mimosa hostilis, I believe you would need to do an acid wash first to remove plant fats. It does take some effort, but it's definitely the way to go if you want to experience smoked DMT. If you want to work with plant sources directly and skip the extraction tek, you're pretty much limited to adding an MAOI for oral ayahuasca.

edit: oh, and like Xorky said, caapi is the MAOI for ayahuasca, not a DMT carrier, so smoking caapi *definitely* wouldn't deliver you any dose whatsoever of DMT ;) The only DMT-related plant I've worked with is mimosa hostilis, as it's by far the easiest to extract from.
