Avoiding Overheating on Vyvanse

So I work as a line-cook and take a low dose of Vyvanse. I don't overheat very easily but at work its pretty hot. Is this bad for my health? I know the seasons just changed so maybe this is a factor and I will get acclimated. If I don't take my meds I can't work quite as effectively. If I take them I burn up and can't work quite as effectively. I usually don't take them before work as a result. I need to loose maybe 15 pounds I know this will help. Any tips to avoid overheating?

Just some general advice about avoiding overheating; make sure you wear breathable, loose fitting cotton clothes if possible. Try and avoid anything made of Lycra/spandex. Also stay hydrated! Try stuff like powerade/Gatorade & of course also cold water, and drink that throughout the day at regular intervals.

As long as you still have a hair net on or whatever is "required", I think you should be able to talk to your boss and explain you're getting to over-heated, and it's related to a prescribed medication.

You could also alternatively not use vyvanse before working. That's probably what I would do in all honesty.

What is your dosage?

40 mg. I'm almost 200 pounds so this is pretty low. I am required to wear a hat and chef coat that's not negotiable. They supply all the hats and chef coats as they want every cook to look uniform. So I really doubt they would let me do this. Everybody takes medicine these days and my coworkers are shady enough to get doctors notes or something just so they don't have to wear that shit. Its hot as fuck in there nobody wants to wear that shit.

I was hoping there are some supplements I can take or something.

Dude, I used to have the same problem. Just surround yourself with water and keep drinking. Get a dorag or something similar to keep the sweat off your brow, and dose conservatively.

How is a side-effect question about a medication I take for a mental disorder not a "discussion of issues related to mental health?" Also pis-posted? Is that some kind of insult? For a moderator from a mental health forum to insult someone is a little heavy handed...

Maybe he meant mis-posted. Seems more contextually correct.
Maybe step into the freezer occasionally if you can. Put a cooling pack under your hat/coat possibly.

Just a suggestion.....but I work in a foundry, so BELIEVE ME when I say that I understand about working in a hot environment, but in the summer months, a lot of us wear ice vests to help combat the extreme temps. Basically, its a vest that has little packs inserted into the lining of it. U freeze the packs ahead of time and then put them in the vest when its time to wear it.

This may be a little overkill for what ur doing, but they do help a SHITLOAD for keeping u cool in extreme heat. The other thing u gotta be careful of is to not "shock" ur system. And what I mean by that is, going from hot to cold too quickly. I've seen guys who are sweating their balls off at work and then (like a dumbass) stick their head in a bucket of ice water. The sudden temp change caused them to have a seizure. Anyway, it may help ya?

Your worry of possible hyperthermia is valid as it can cause heatstroke. Amphetamines and environmental factors can definitely induce this. The only way to completely avoid it is work in a cooler setting.

When I abused stims (not your case) I remember stripping down to my boxers to keep from overheating and I wasn't even in a hot environment, just the park on a nice day. Needless to say I attracted a lot of stares from other patrons lol.

The ice vest idea sounds perfect. It'll keep you cool before you get hot so you wont shock yourself as was said.

I think the ice vest sounds like a great idea too. Where do you get such a thing? I mean I'm sure you can find them online but what type of store? Sporting goods?

When I take adderall I sweat and get super hot too. I always tend to feel hotter than everyone else anyways but of course I am always busy so when I take adderall and start working or even running around cleaning house I get waayyy hot, even with the AC set really low.

You can drop your body temperature drastically by immersing your forearms in ice water, considering the amount of blood flowing so close to the surface in these spots. I think they even make something based on this principle mixed with a camping chair for fire response workers etc.

Related to what Venrak said, you can put an ice cube on your neck, kinda below & behind your ears, and that should help to lower your body temp.

Just wanted to pop back in here with nothing HR-worthy to add, just to affirm that working in a kitchen (especially with only one other fuckface -worse than alone-) on amps is rough and stressfull. Mentally and physically.

I guess there was some HR woven into that piece of crap. Yay!
