Average intellect of habitual drug users

the only difference is that users typically have openm minds, whereas the non-users typically just listen to what the gov't says and dont really think for themselves
true, drug users may have a tendency to be more rebelious, but oftentimes not in an "open-minded" way. in my experience, a lot of drug users are rebelious just for the sake of being rebelious. they challenge the government's authority just to justify their own drug abuse while their actions go against all the guidelines of responsible drug use. they are not critical thinkers and do not question the assumptions which are convenient for them to make. i've encountered many drug users on BL and in real life who demonstrate very conservative or even reactionary sheep-like thinking. drug use doesn't necessarily go hand in hand with a progressive mode of thought or greater individuality. many drug users even subscribe to the popular idea that all drug use is criminal and ultimately leads to addiction or worse, and as such they see no need to exercise moderation and good judgement in their drug use.

I dont think drug use has had an impact either way on my intelligence.

I'll agree that its opened my mind to new concepts, thus offering a new angle of perception to how i would normally view something. But i dont equate that ability to having greater intelligence. Well, not in my strictest definition.

I didnt see the thread you were talking about but I know there are alot of people out there who dont mind embellishing stories. I firmly believe that drugs can benifit you in the long run, such as psychedelics become life changing and you choose a path in life that you probably wouldn't have straight. But as for an experience making you smarter I dont agree. But the how to we measure intelligence? IQ tests? I fail to see them as a good indication of intelligence. I think its almost near impossible to accuratly measure for it......

i was pretty openminded before i did drugs. pretty anti establishment, etc.

if anything, drugs made me a hell of a lot more conservative, i know have 0% tolerance for bullshit.

i think it depends on the users reasons behind their drug use....which doesn't necessarily flow through to their methods of drug use. For instance, I could see a person trying IVing smack, to expand their mind and understand other people's experiences and motives as an "intelligent" way to do drugs

As much as I could understand a person taking 10 tabs of acid for the first time to get "really fucked up" as a less intelligent way of taking drugs

i think drugs have the potential to expand your mind and open your eyes to different points of view, but that the actual consumption of drugs has little to no bearing on your actual intelligence, more your motives behind taking them.

intelligent people will always want to learn more, and unintelligent people are always content with their own limited knowledge :\

depends on the particular drug, group of ppl, etc

maybe it would be higher for a lot of the drug using population because it requires the the observation that authority (not only govt but a LOT of society, including friends, parents, media, teachers) can be wrong about an issue it feels so strongly about

as someone else mentioned, a person isn't going to post SAT scores if they're low
but i'd say it definitely depends on the drug as i have several friends who used to be quite intelligent & are now quite stupid as a result--they admit--of years of excessive pot smoking.
then again when i do speed i understand calculus on levels that don't even exist. SO.
also i think that acid/psychedelics would offer ways of thinking AROUND things so one wouldn't necessarily think faster or better, just in more ways at once, automatic 'intelligence' or at least understanding

[actually i took my SATs before i ever used drugs so that part is irrelevant but i do get strange looks when i tell anyone who doesn't know me very well my score]

& if you ever have any illusions of the drug culture being somehow more intelligent as a whole than other subsets, i suggest reading a few livejournal communities...8o

it's funny... everday at work my colleagues tell me that I'm really smart. But when it comes to my drug use, my family says that I'm stupid... there's a thin line between stupidity and courage, biotch!

courage? I seriously dont think it has anything to do with that.. courage would be abstaining from drugs...pure self-centered ego fucking my friend....hey, i admit, im right there with you.
