Average adult dosage of adderall

Newly prescribed adderall, not the XR but the regular type, I'm curious as to what is the dosage most adults are given? I know everyone is different. I'm now on 25mg twice daily. However, some research I've found states the average daily adderall dosage for adults is 60-120 mg per day. That some adults safey take up to 180mg.

My dosage seems to be working pretty well for me, but most days I feel that I need a higher dose. For some reason, I have failed to ask my doctor this question at either one of our two meetings.

I prefer the regular adderall, as I do like the ability to self dose. I don't always take my full daily prescribed amount, and I do skip days as well. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

i think it's like 60mg.

i take 50mg vyvanse daily, works great. doc's will usually up your dose if you tell them it's not lasting long enough and you are honest about it.

My starting dose was 20mg, once daily. I weigh 120lbs. I could not handle the medicine, as I am hyper-sensitive to stimulants. Doctors increase dosage as tolerance develops.

Well, I'd say 25-30mg would work just fine, but I guess it depends on your severity of ADHD. I don't have ADHD, and will just take 20-30mg if I have a huge assignment to get done, works a charm, so this is all I'm basing this off. I'd think without tolerance 60mg would be too much, that would get me buzzing pretty hard I reckon, haha.

For adults, a lot of times when you have some high doses like 60mg and higher per day that can be because the individual has had the prescription since high school or earlier.

Also, adults vary a ton in weight. When I first got my prescription I went and compared my dosages to others like you. But, it seems like most adult ADD-ers I've met or talked to online have very personal approaches to dosing. Some want to take as much as they can, as long as the productivity outweighs the side effects. Others take just enough to keep from daydreaming too bad.

From my experience, the average adult takes about 40mg of Adderall per day. But, don't worry about the exact dosage as long as you're finding what works best for you. 50mg Vyvanse (equiv. ~20mg dextroamphetamine) or 30mg Vyvanse (~10mg dexamp) and 5mg Adderall IR work for my purposes.

I take 60mg of Dexedrine XR, which is for me would be equivalent to 60mg of Adderall, but actually the Adderall would be more 'stimulating' and 'tweaky' feeling. Dextroamphetamine is fairly anxiolytic/calming for me.

I feel like I need to point out that regardless of prescribed or not, if you're taking 40+mg of amphetamines daily it IS going to catch up with you in the long run and you will notice some bad side affects.


Just cause its legal doesn't mean you can take speed everyday and not have to worry about it affecting you.

From personal experience I feel like it made it harder to become motivated without the drugs/ depressed in general.

Life long amphetamine use is not an option at those levels. Once I started noticing bad side affects I lowered my dosage to like 5-10mgs a day til I just quit cause it was fucking with my brain chemistry too much.

I have a friend who has had many recreational experiences with non-extended release Adderall. He weighs about 250 pounds and 60 mgs is a high dose for him. His normal dose is 30 mgs which is a good place for him, it is enough to make him feel really euphoric and energized and keep him going well into the next night. He's taken up to 60 mgs before which he didn't find as pleasant. While he didn't notice any substantial heart rate elevation, the "comedown" was more pronounced. Also on 60, he chomped his teeth together for the next two days. Also, the following day after taking 60, when he finally tried to eat something the roof of his mouth swelled unreasonably and caused him great pain. Also he talked to his friend on the phone for 3 hours about why he should consider atheism.

For my friend, who is a relatively experienced recreational drug user, Adderall is a powerful drug. He has no tolerance to Adderall which is something to consider, but due to his body weight usually takes relatively high doses of most drugs. What is for him might not be for you though, so always work your way up. 30 mg shouldn't be too intense for anyone though.

I don't do it scripted but with no tolerance and medium weight 20-30 mg should give you a decent buzz and some productivity.

Great....then it seems like I'm appropriately dosed where I am. I would like to see it last longer...but I also don't take both my doses every day, only when I feel I need it. I've read alot about tolerance and I'd like to keep my tolerance level as low as possible for as long as possible.

What about the other add drugs? Are they all similar to adderall or are they different...so if one does become too tolerant, can they be prescribed a different drug or will it be non-effective...so to speak?

^ Apart from Strattera, all the ADD drugs I can think of act on dopamine one way or another. So there will be some cross-tolerance.

You could try an extended release formulation.

Modafinil is a diferent class of psychostimulant in that it works on a different system Orexin cells which regulate awake sleep cycles.

I've been using it at the same dose for a few years now. It is different than other psychostimulants in that it has very little recreational value. Works great for what it supposed to. Wakes you right up but there are few peripheral effects, like no racing pulse, or motor mouth, no euphoria in the classic sense although it can/does boost mood ( more in a antidepressant sort of way, an overall feeling that lasts longterm). All the effects seem to be concentrated in the brain itself, in which it increases alertness.

I've been on adderall for over ten years and I'm still prescribed 20 mg--i take 10 mg IR twice daily.

I don't always take it, and sometimes I take more. I am female and 120 lbs.

I've never heard of anyone safely taking up to 180 mg daily. That sounds fatal. I've read 60 mg is the max dose to safely use daily.

I would say that 20-30 mg is the average dosage that adults are prescribed.

180mg is not near fatal. It is way too much for anyone to be prescribed daily IMO but far from fatal. Think about how people dose meth which is like twice as potent.

The Chemist in the first reply, 50mg vyvanse=15mg dextro amphetamine (being "released" slowly).

Not that that matters since this thread is old...
