Recent legislation banning the use of handheld phones by drivers had basically no effect on the number of road accidents, according to a new study.
“If it’s really that dangerous, and if even just a fraction of people stop using their phones, we would expect to find some decrease in accidents,” says professor Daniel Kaffine, who worked on the analysis. “But we didn’t find any statistical evidence of a reduction.”

Various academic studies have put it on a par with drunk driving, but Kaffine and his team note that many of these studies were lab based and may have failed to reproduce the way people actually behave behind the wheel.
I would even go as far as to say that all cars should be manual by law. Why? Because texting while driving has overtaken drunk driving as the leading cause of fatal collisions in the U.S. Driving manual forces you to use both hands and both feet constantly, which improves focus on the road normally and also makes it incredibly difficult to even attempt something as reckless as texting while driving.
Unless you have dyspraxia or some other condition that makes a manual too difficult, really you should be using manual. It just seems lazy to go for the automatic.
It's definitely great for people to be able to drive both, no doubt about that. But there is nothing wrong with only being able to drive one. If you can only drive one type, just stick with that until you learn the other.
I never text and drive and I don't drive a manual.
I have also seen people drive manual and still text. Talk about dangerous....
I don't think your argument is valid at all.
Automatic, because why not?
What are the legitimate advantages of driving a manual?
Yeah I have shade tree mechaniced enough to not stick up for modern era US vehicles. This is why I drive a hiluxThere's your problem. There is a reason no American built car has ever won the Dakar rally
My guess would be a 1998 Subaru outback. We get a poll on this thread?i drive a stick. i love it because it's just more fun, tbh. also, my gas mileage is great. further, i have all-wheel drive and, in the snow, it just feels like a more secure driving experience.
foreigner, while learning to shift can feel daunting, in a very short time, you'll not even think about it and it will become a reflex.
