Australia is About to Grow Even More Opium Poppies

The US isn't the centre of the universe; pharmaceutical opiates/opioids are prescribed and consumed across the globe.

The United States makes up only 4.6 percent of the world's population, but consumes 80 percent of its opioids and 99 percent of the world's Hydrocodone.

Land of the free, and home of the numb.

If we grew the poppies here they would be putting those tags that track them on em like the reefer plants and double the price of meds. But they wouldn't lose any. Wouldn't that be a show. A billion tags, lol.

Hydrocodone isn't commonly prescribed in many countries except the US.
And with the cultivation and processing of poppy straw both happening (to my understanding) on different sides of a sea (the Bass Strait) the cultivation happening closer to the source makes total sense, commercially. Processed alkaloids can go anywhere in the world.
The USA is a massive consumer of a lot of things - still don't make it the centre of the universe; unless drug consumption and over-medication of the populous is used as a benchmark.
Land of the free...heh, yeah.
