Hi everyone,
I just wanted to share the details of a new Australian study:

The Australian Ketamine Survey (AuKS) aims to explore the characteristics of people who use ketamine in Australia, gain a basic understanding of why people use ketamine, and identify some harms and benefits experienced by people related to their ketamine use.

Overview

The proposed research aims to explore non-prescribed (illicit) ketamine use in Australia. There are indications that non-prescribed ketamine use has increased in Australia but little information about what this use actually looks like. We want to gain insight into who might be using ketamine in Australia, how they use ketamine, and why they use it. We want to identify the consequences of ketamine use, both the benefits and the harms. We will do this to inform future research and the provision of harm reduction and medical services to people who use ketamine in Australia.

What the Study Involves

The AuKS utilises an online survey of people who have used ketamine at least once in the previous 12-months who will answer questions to their demographics, use of ketamine and other drugs, reasons for using ketamine, and consequences (both good and bad) they believe are related to their ketamine use.

The survey will take approximately 15 to 20 minutes to complete. Participants will be offered a chance to win 1 of 20 $50AUD prizes as thank you for their participation.

Who Can Participate?

We’re seeking participants who meet the following criteria:
  • Aged 18 or over
  • Have used non-prescribed ketamine in Australia at least once in the previous 12 months
  • Residing in Australia
  • Fluent in English

Interested?

If you think this study might be for you, please use this link for more information and to access the survey.

The Australian Ketamine Study now has a paid promotion with Bluelight. If you are eligible, please consider contributing your data to this excellent study - it's well designed and run by a thoughtful set of people who I highly respect. I'm sure they will be able to write up some unique analysis exploring the rise of ketamine in Australia from this work, and I look forward to reading it!

Just took the survey. There's a good bit of depth in the questions and I appreciate the sections where the respondent is invited to provide more detail via a text box.

I've used plenty of ketamine over the years and ultimately landed at the position that it's not worth doing anymore for me. I used to try to self-medicate with it but I'd either take too little (or much more likely far too much). What I miss is methoxetamine - that was a potent anti-depressant which was capable of opening suppressed thoughts or evening concluding unhelpful thought patterns.

Yeah, I abused that too and suffered the consequences (i.e. mania), but I stand by my positive words for it. I think it has every bit as much potential for therapy as MDMA / psilocybin / LSD / (es)ketamine. It's a shame it was seemingly stamped out of existence. Perhaps a simplistic or conspiratorial thought, but I almost wonder if it was 'too good'. I can still find turbo shit like a-PVP if I really want it, and that will take you to psychosis town as fast as / faster than meth. Why is that still around but (AFAIK) MXE is just gone?

ANway, sorry for off-topic. Survey was good and I hope it gets plenty of good responses.

Thanks for the information Monica, I am about to start it now.

I will recommend it to a couple of others I know who should be more than happy to contribute as well.

Really glad to see you again Andy!

Yes, please do distribute this survey to anyone you know who might be eligible. Which feels like most of Australia, really... ;)

Thank you so much, Tronica! 🐌 I hope everything’s going well. Haha, that is so true 😄

The VPTS in Fitzroy is fantastic, five years ago I never would’ve imagined we’d see something like that in Melbourne. I might send an email your way later so I don’t take this thread off‑topic.

The survey was really good and I would recommend it to anyone reading this who may be considering it. Its not too long, the questions are relevant and not repetitive (which I occasionally find with some)

All the best with the Study @stassi

Thanks Andy! Recruitment is looking good at the moment and it's humbling that there's been such good uptake and feedback from the community :)

Hello everyone, I need an urgent reply please.

I recently got my prescription for oxycodone/acetaminophen (10/325), and the pills are white and oval with “M523” on them. However, I noticed that some of the pills have the number on one side flipped the opposite way compared to others, even though they otherwise look identical.

I’m concerned about why some are flipped and some are not. Has anyone seen this before or know if this is normal?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
Hi mate, welcome to Bluelight.

If you have concerns, honestly the only people who will be able to give you a definite answer about whether anything is wrong are the staff at the pharmacy you got them from.

Also, if you still feel the need to post about this, I’d recommend putting it in the appropriate section. It’s pretty easy to navigate the forum titles.. for example, your local area’s forum would be the right place.

I understand you’re new, so just be mindful of that in the future, as jumping into someone else’s thread isn’t looked upon very well. If you don’t know how to delete a post, don’t worry the moderators will sort it out soon.

Good luck and again, welcome mate!
