Drug using nurses and harm reduction workers could be hired at Victoria's first supervised injecting room for their "lived experience of substance use".
North Richmond Community Health wants registered nurses and harm reduction practitioners with "lived experience of substance use" to apply for roles at the centre, listing it under the heading of essential skills and experience in the position descriptions.
The NRCH posted the position descriptions on its website for the jobs at the Lennox Street centre in inner Melbourne.
Staff would be responsible for "supervising clients before, during and after episodes of injecting" while engaging with drug users to identify their health needs, the job description reads.
The Victorian government enacted legislation in 2017 to trial a safe injecting room in a bid to provide a hygienic and medically supervised facility for illicit drug users.
Premier Daniel Andrews changed his tune on the injecting room last year and supported a move for a two-year trial at the centre. It's part of an $87 million drug rehabilitation plan which includes an extra 100 residential rehab beds to combat ice and heroin use.
NRCH says the injecting room will save lives and the centre is expected to open in June.
