AU: Drugs and dirty money - $12B/Year Venture

I've just personally seen what these substances could do to people... Cocaine for one, ruined my boy's life and now he's in jail for basically being out of control and using. The shit totally changed him....

Like many things, it can be misused. The point is how do you deter that. It is not through prohibition and drug laws.

Of course some people will fuck up. Name one thing that someone out there doesn't fuck up and hurt others or themselves with. Heroin has been legal at various times, and has been provided to users while it has been illegal. Society didn't crumble, everyone didn't become addicted, etc.

One of the main points of ant-prohibitionists is that the prohibition causes more harm than the drugs would if they were legal. Look into it, seriously.

Bro... I'm not against your views and am very open to the legalization of all medicine... I MOST DEFENATLY understand how unfair prohibition is and how it is a unjust war against the american peoples right to freedom. Trust me... I'm very much like you and most of you and would vote the same ways as most of you. I'm going to research this more thoroughly and reply... Check out the Drug War Chronicle. It's a blog and has a ton of information about drug prohibition/legalization.
 
I'm afraid I can't duplicate the energy you like in this post, all I have to say is that doing more of what works and less of what doesnt is logical, doing the opposite or continuing to prohibit drugs in an aggressive way runs along the lines of the definition of insanity. And it's a harmful drug I know that from experience, but I also know that humans have the ability to get around those things if they want to.

I don't think you should lable the medicine "Dangerous," mabye on the label it should say, "will cause physical and psychological addiction," or what have you if abused or disregard lable recommendations.... Just like cigarettes "this product will cause lung cancer!" LOL!!!! And that shit is legal!?!?! A fuck'n kid could go into the store with a fake ID and purchase "PROVEN LUNG CANCER?!" NOW THATS INSANE!!!! But if I have a few bags of marijuana, or purchase opium, or have opium, or purchased enhanced opium I GO TO JAIL!?!?! WTF??? check this out... and if you get caught, you could get off if you have a lot of money, and I"m talking $10,000's of dollars in your pocket for a decent lawyer then your fine.... NO WORRIES!! Although if you don't have thousands for a decent lawyer well then.... BYE BYE!!! Same thing for a speeding ticket, if you have $1000 to throw at a lawyer, he/she will get you off with no points usually, but if you don't, well then.... hahahha.. the devil gets his way... your insurances goes up for 4 years and you have 4 points on your license and mabye more depending if you were listening to a good song and driving a little fast.... which makes it very difficult to get a job in the future... So is it justice, or just a smack in the face of the gov't itself after fatally punishing a freedom loving citizen because he/she made a mistake? If he/she can't work then the gov't doesn't make revenue from that citizen, in turn, the citizen then goes for welfare, food stamps, medicaid, and all the other wonderful programs the gov't offeres for those who are unfortunatly made a few bad decisions...

We sort of got off the topic with my recommendation of legalizing cannabis/hemp to decrease the demand, which was part of the topic for this thread... Also, Phrozen I did research the drug war chronicle and I must say it makes sooooo much sense, thats why most "democracies," do not understand it! lol..... wonderul wealth of information... its now listed on my favorites!! Phrozen is absolutely correct. An inanimate powder never hurt anyone. Unedcuated and illict usage of said powder HAS. IF the govt. were to legalise it, as it has legalised methadone and Bupe in terms of LEGAL, Opioid Substitution Therapy, people would be amazed at how much society would improve.


Prohibtion has NEVER worked.Up until the late 1980s China offered users one chance at rehabilitation and IF they were caught a second time they were executed. Did it stop addiction? Not only did it NOT stop it, addiction grew by leaps and bounds as Chinese society opened up. It grew so much that China was forced to rethink its policy and refocus its efforts on interdiction instead of maltreating a health issue with extreme legal measures.

The problem of course is that when legalisation of heroin, et al is discussed people automatically assume right off the bat that people are promoting over the counter and totally uncontrolled distribution of said substance. Prescription Heroin Prgrammes have been successful in many different societies but the first step is in overcoming that mental hurdle epitomised in this thread.
 
As for the article...It is , like most releases by govts., nonsense. Who in their right mind would even imagine that every dollar being remitted is the product of some illicit activity? Is every Viet Namese living in Australia engaging in strictly illegal activities?

All governmental agencies must fight for a piece of each budget and nothing is more useful that a "public fright" campaign that will benefit your specific department.
