Hello I'm new here and searching for some advice. I have been hooked on pain killers on and off for 3 years or so and they are prescribed to me. I recently decided that it was time to stop and stopped taking them last night around 6 pm I am terrified of withdraws and the following morning they set in. I had really bad chills, rls, diarrhea you name it! I was miserable. I decided to call my prescribing doctor and tell him that I had decided to stop taking them and that they were causing withdraws. He suggested that I take Benadryl which I did, it made the rls 100X worse. After hours of agony I finally decided to go to my local er for some help. I told them the truth and was treated like a junkie. I sat there for 3 hours and the doctor came in and asked me what exactly I wanted her to do. I told her how bad the rls was and she prescribed Visteril which didn't work. I went home and told my mom what was going on and she told me to take 2 300 mg gabapentin. I took that and started feeling a little better. About 4 hours after taking it my cousin came over and told me it would probably be easier if I tapered with half a dose of my prescribed opiate. I took that with Gabapentin and I feel fine all withdraw symptoms are non existent. Does anyone have any other suggestions I could try to stop the withdrawls? I don't want to taper. I want to stop completely cold turkey! Did I just prolong the withdraws with the half I took? I have been lurking on this site for years but have never posted till now. Any help would be very much appreciated. I am tired of the dependency on opiates. Thanks in advance

Hey Consumed and welcome to BL :) Nice work on making this decision as its usually a tough one to finally make.

Which one will you be detoxing?

medications for acute opiate detox

The medications I would explore the use of for detox would be:
>Clonidine< DOSED EVER FOUR HOURS..

one of either
>NEURONTIN< >HERE< >HERE< >here<
OR >Lyrica<
OR >phenibut<

>A BENZO BUT JUST AT NIGHT<
>a nsaid<
>melatonin<
tylenol
Senokot S is a stool softener and laxative. If you do not want the laxative you can go for strait stool softenerDioctyl sodium sulfosuccinate.

(Opi Withdrawal) what is the best comfort meds for opiate w/d?

In just a few days.. under a week for most you will pass out of the acutes. In under a year we will feel better 97% of the time then 100% of time when physically dependent;)

I had quit for 3 months but my husband kept doing them and I got started back :/ Usually my withdraws only last 2 days. I have been taking the Neurontin religiously! It actually seems to help. It is a miracle drug. I have went from taking anywhere from 40 mg to 80mg a day consistently to 10mg. I took mainly hydrocodone and percocet. There is something legitimately wrong with my back.

As far as benzos I would love to take them but they happen to be my drug of choice. So thats a no go. I usually disappear and do drugs that are a lot worse. I have decided to just do the taper with the gabapentin. It really helps. I've had no withdraw symptoms today and I haven't taken anything today either. I'm taking to half 4 hours apart at night time. After a little while I will just completely stop and hopefully without withdraws :D Thank you for your suggestions. :)
