Misc Atomoxetine and Selegeline

I'm curious to know if there'd be any negative interactions with this combo, I've been taking atomoxetine (40mg) for the last few days and recently got a pkg of selegeline through and I just popped a 5 mg tab.

I probably should have asked this question first rather than taking the pill but I've got some benzos just in case anything gets out of hand.

I've read that selegeline starts to work between 24-48 hours after dosing, and that the half life of atomoxetine is 5 hours. I've also just read that selegeline shouldn't be used for at least two weeks after stopping atomoxetine so that's where my concern stems from.

Do I have anything to worry about or am I just being paranoid?

This combination is contraindicated, even though the onset of action for the selegiline is technically longer than the half life for atomoxetine, that doesn't mean they won't interact. There's a reason why the warning label tells you to wait two weeks.

For the record, it is not a good idea to combine even mild stimulants with MAOIs. You could have a major hypertensive crisis on your hands that even the benzos won't help with. Or nothing could happen and you would be fine.


Still, combining almost anything with MAOIs is a very very bad idea, if you start to experience a hypertensive crisis (symptoms include: extreme headache, body aches, shortness of breath, anxiety, rapid increase in blood pressure/extremely high blood pressure) seek emergency medical attention immediately, always better to be safe than sorry, a hypertensive crisis can result in some pretty bad stuff.
