Just wondering whats the drug scene like St. Pierre and Miquellon. Besides the drug prices being in Euros I would immagine by the dimuntive size of the territory that its probably small to non-existant. Scored some high quality tropical carribean weed in Saint Martin, paid for in Euros but there a whole different scene down there as far as drugs go. Anyone ever been there? )to st pierre et miquelon) I've met so many Canadians that have no idea the French have a little piece of EU soil (or whatever its status is) right off the coast of Newfoundland. Drugs aside- anyone ever been there, whats the place like.

yeah it is part of france.. i have been there.. it is freaking cool . you should go but be careful because i hear the have strict drug laws. You might end up in a french jail eating baguetts and cheese!

I've worked with alot of Canadians that come down and get temp jobs in health care as "travelers". The funny thing, out of a dozen, only one knew of the existence of the place. It is what remains of France's once extensive empire in Canada.

Apparently, the place has a historic role in international drug smuggling in the past. In 1920, during the American prohibition of Alcohol, the place enjoyed an economic boom as a source of smuggled EtOH. After prohibition, it suffered a huge recession, analogous to what would happen in Mexico, Colombia, Afganistan, and a bunch of other narco states if drugs were decriminalized in key consumer countries.

During WWII, the territories governor was a sympathizer of the Vichy regieme. The Government of Canada had plans to invade but the Governor general held back. Instead, Charles de Gaul, organized an invasion of the Island by Free French troops. It has the distinction of being the one of first pieces of French soil liberated from the fascists. Aparently, though, de Gaulle didn't consult the American's or Canadians so Roosevelt was pissed off at him.

In a referendum, the place decided to stay French.

While were sort of on the subject, Vive la Quebec Libre!
