It's a first generation antihistamine used primarily for allergies, nausea, insomnia and mild anxiety. Unlike most anxiolytics, it has virtually no abuse potential outside of use to potentiate opioids which is why it's being used more and more recently for anxiety as a substitute for recreational anxiolytics such as valium, xanax, klonopin, etc.
