At home testing of neurotransmitter level?

are you an MD?...I assume not but would like to clarify...

Indeed such testing is being done and even this one may have some valid science behind it, but I am at this juncture skeptical what value they have as I am not sure how much of a reflection of NT levels in the general systemic pool correlate with the actual delicate interplay of the actual levels and pathways on the other side of the BBB (in th brain)

also this can not account for receptor sensitivity amongst other parameters

so how valuable it is is hard to say

some NTs of course have some effect of a systemic nature other than in the brain that for certain people may be insightful and then it is indeed valid, but to gauge brain NT overall status....not so much

...i will revise the above a bit though and note it can point one in a direction that may be valid to explore as regards to CNS so some insight may be gleaned, though again it has to be taken with a grain of salt as relates to the brain

as well as some NTs are noted markers for certain conditions and have good correlation in these instances

so it depends on the goal, expectations of the test, and who is interpreting them and guiding further pursuit of the matter

yeah this can't attest to receptor downregulation or upregulation nor are levels in plasma always reflect levels in the brain, in the end it may not be terribly useful data

a PET scan would be more appropriate but delivers a lot of radiation to the brain

lol... no I'm not an MD. That would be extreamly stupid of me to register something on this type of site indicating my profession. I got my screen name from the Beatles song off Revolver. Doctor Roberts was the Dentist that introduced the Beatles to LSD for the first time. I appriciate the advice on the neurotransmitter level testers.

The larger point is, are you having mental / psychiatric problems? If not, who cares about this test? If so, go to your primary care physician.

Was unaware of that reference from the song...makes sense now =D

Personally I would try the self assesment from Dr Braverman . It worked for me and showed me I was deficient in gaba, dopamine, serotonin, acetylcholine.
Some might not agree though with Braverman but I do , he makes sense.

The urine test will show up for sure in what you are deficient but it does depend on what time of day you take them. Plus it's quite expensive.

Hah! That sounds really dubious to me. You just happen to be deficient in just about all of the most important neurotransmitters???

I'd imagine a dopamine deficiency would rear it's head in really noticeable ways...

Dubious maybe, when I first did the test and compared it with other people they reacted in a similar way, I didn't do a urine test to compare the Braverman result with to be certain I was deficient in them all.
What I can tell you is how I changed after taking mucuna pruriens/alpha gpc/etc.. from being stuck in a room all day and non energetic/communicating to being in a better frame of mind then before starting e's and drink and ciggies.
Only one small problem continues from a very long list.
