Assisting in the recovery of down regulated GABA receptors??

^Yeah, I thought it was a synthetic form of GABA that actually doesn't act the same way.

Could use of any other form of neuro-supplement at least help benzo withdrawa?

suck all gaba oout off yer skull so your brain receptor gaba recepotors go like "wtf where did all the gaba go, lets up regulate""

aND THEN after a while put he gaba bacj in youl be really chill and stuff

Very interesting thread.

I've dealt with one kind of GABA issue or another for over 10yrs. They Suck, kinda like anxiety sucks.

To treat the anxiety I first used alcohol. Then I found G! Well just as with alcohol, G must be used in moderation. I used the 24hr/d dosing regime for 6 months. I thought I was going to die. I'd never experienced a more debilitating withdrawal. I never wanted to go through that again.

Feb06-Aug06 Took phenibut all the time. Really All!:\ I was using 100g every 10 days. Not at first but after a couple months. The withdrawal was almost as bad as the GHB.

No benzo probs yet. Just using lightly.

I used 800mg of gabapetine with 5mg Deprenyl for a few months this year and I really liked the effects.

Just to repeated the repeated, if your GABA system is tweaked let it be and the body will work back toward homeostasis.

L-Glutamine is a precursor of GABA.

This guy hit the nail on the head. You want to load up on precursers of GABA like glutamic acid, taurine, and a b-complex. Also reading alot increases levevels of glutamine in the brain, as well as exercise, yoga and meditation,

Glutamic Acid is glutamate, which doesn't cross the blood brain barrier. Don't even bother.

Glutamine might work, but it won't help restore your GABA receptors... it may just overload them with extra GABA, which could act in a similar way to GHB.

Give them time. Let them rest.

^you ppl comletely confused me!! so does l-glutamine works or not??? some say it's not &\or even can increase anxiety & others say it works... so is it work or not??? say is it helpful like l-theanine?

What about the GABA/niacin franken-synthjob that is known under the iron curtain as pikamilone (picamilon for the imperial folks)? Anxiolytic, and fairly fitting of attempting cognitive rehab. Was effective in alcohol wd/treatment under controlled conditions. Oh... and easily available.

^I dunno about the 'easily available' part, at least not for me lol
anyway he said that tapering wasn't his problem

I never found Picamilon to do a damn thing for me. More stupid Russian nootropics. Do those people actually *have* peer-review, or do they just do this stuff to glorify Mother Russia? I kinda feel the same way about chinese TCM articles. Like, can we actually believe them, or is it just chinese propaganda? Maybe I'm just paranoid, but I kinda feel like it might be more important to them to get positive results than, well, accurate ones.

for effecitve recovery of gaba receptors, you'd need to target gene expression by activating the promotor region for the gaba receptor sequence.
that might be possible by using a specifical creb-activator, a class of compounds which are currently under development. unfortunately, the pharms doing this are keeping the structures of these creb-activators secret. :(

^no shit lol
obviously i can't get a hold of that technology, can anyone point me into a coherent effective way for me to go back to my normal gabaergic activity?
i have been needing to take benzos just to feel "ok" these days.
even though ppl say that gaba doesn't cross the bbb i still think it helps me a lot; no, it's not placebo.

Hi all,

I'm just curious if there is anything that can be used to assist in the recovery of GABA receptors that have been down regulated? Particularly after prolonged but interspersed benzo use.

I know that there are GABA supplements but I understand that there are issues with these crossing the blood barrier membrane. Are there any that work better than others?

What about other pharms? Is there anything that can be used to assist in the recovery of GABA receptors that have been down regulated?

Cheers

Alex
why OTHER pharms?

if you want to use gaba or some other pharm besides benzos to hit your GABA receptors, why not just use benzos?

if you want to become undependent, hitting your GABA receptors with any compound should be just like using benzos (just to a lesser degree)

if you want maintenance, hitting your GABA receptors with any compound should be just like using benzos (just to a lesser degree)

a glass or two of beer a day is a legal alternative that def. works

i hear you about the picamilon. really doesnt seem to do a damn thing. then again most nootropics dont seem to do much for me. i guess im just already too much fo a genius:p
