Aspergers *mega merged* thread

I wouldnt worry a bit about it. phychiatrists love making 5 minute diagnoses that are often woefully inadequate especially when children are concerned. Ive been labeled lots of things but now im in college working on a degree and you couldnt pick me out of a crowd I promise. On the other hand your teacher is a jackass and should be told as much,

I agree with this, at least in this case. I was diagnosed as having possible Asperger's when I had to take some psychiatric tests, but the more I learned about it the more I was convinced that the psychiatrist confused some OCD related symptoms as Asperger's. Also, Asperger's doesn't even exist in the DSM anymore. They merged it with the autistic spectrum.

And strong 3 year bump. lol

My friend who is a teacher her son has aspergers and she never told him, she thought if he felt like every other kid why make him feel different, he is now 20 and knows but he also was used to doing the same thing as every other child in his class, he was labelled for the purpose of getting him help when he needed it at school such as one to one and smaller groups for learning. Another friends who's daughter has obviously got a few problems and I would say more obvious than my friends son, refuses to get her diagnosed as she doesnt want her labelled and as such has been fighting with the school to get extra help for her.The school can not go ahead and get extra funding for the one to one learning support, but does put her in with the learning support groups. my friend really feels that if she gets her daughter labelled it will hinder her in later life, mind you she also spent 20 years in the army as a dentist, so gives you an idea lol. But for now her daughter suffers. The problem I have with this kind of diagnosis is that, my nephew who is currently undergoing an assessment for autism spectrum disorder, aspergers, he only shows those signs when he is unhappy, take him out of the environment he was in and he is now a different child, he has been living with us for a couple of years now and the things that were in his case file are no longer relevant, but it has taken this long for them to now assess him, and from what they are seeing now don't think he is. I think it can be some children are unhappy, or some may just not like what is getting pushed on to them by the school and the signs manifest themselves similar to those used to diagnose various conditions which is a shame.

3 year bump defo a good one :)
