Anybody who's from, or who has even visited, anywhere in Asia knows what I'm talking about. Redbull in Thailand and China. Whisbih and PaoLyTa in Taiwan. Genki Drinks in Japan. Hepaviton in Indonesia.

They all do the same thing, or at least aim to -- keep you up and moving and chipper and productive long after you should've crashed for 10 hours on your couch with the TV on and some food in your hand. They have lots of different ingredients that are supposed to do this, plus a shitload of caffeine.

Anybody here really enjoy taking them? Sometimes even when I'm not even tired or smoking pot in the least way, I'll walk down the street, see a shiny gold can of imported original Thai Redbull in a can in a storefront in the Burmese neighboorhood by my house calling my name.

It's a great lift, and I haven't noticed a lot of bad side FX. For me it qualifies as a mood altering drug. Probably psychosomatic, but then again a lot of fun drugs are. It makes any kind of effort whatsoever very enjoyable, and a really fun challenge, no matter how hard or ridiculous. Any drug that inspires me to take up biking seriously can't be too bad, can it? Are there any long-term effects of drinking like one Redbull a week? Or any of those other ones I mentioned?

I used to drink 5 mugs of coffee a day. Made me one jittery paranoid and paranoia-inspiring bastard. But it felt good. I could get into stimulants like a champ, I'm sure. Won't touch cocaine with a 10 foot pole. E is magnetic enough. That's saying a lot seeing as how I've done it only 3 very spaced out times. I still can't function without a little cup o joe every morning. And I'll sure as hell be looking forward to that next roll in 6 weeks.

Anyway, that's enough on me. Anyone else into legal jazzeruppers like you can get in any little roadside mom and pop shop anywhere in Asia? I'm in Taiwan right now. Don't take a shine to Whisbih and all the other ones like it. It's black and thick and bitter and has chinese herbs, nicotine (!), and of course lots of caffeine. Some local working class dudes drink it with rocket fuel liquor and stay up all night twitching and laughing and puking. And chewing betel nuts, which makes it look like they're bleeding from the mouth.

Hear in India u can even get special K and speed over the counter.

i use to frequent the shops in india, its not too hard to get pills and such, but the quality is not nearly as good as it is in america, although I did get some decent quality K while I was there. If I were you I would go hunt down some Opium or hash from some of the saddhus, always good quality charras.

If you find a Taiwanese Saddhu - post a pic ;)

Far East Asia is quite a long way from the Opium laced Charas goodness of South Asia I am afraid :(

Ive tried red bull several times in Thailand, and many genki drinks in Japan, eg lipovitan D.

I find they do bugger all, except a small caffeine hit, and making me feel a little jittery.

Still, if others can get something more out of them than me (and Ill still use em occasionaly instead of coffee when im buggered) then good luck to ya...im jealous!

Stuff like Ginseng, and other herbal stimulants common to these drinks, when manufactured in countries with little to no consumer health protection laws, have been found to contain peticides and heavy-metal chems, which can build up in your blood stream.

as for the damage done by drinking one a week, id say the same rule applies as always........

anything in moderation is fine!

once a weeks nothing, probably healthy. 5 a day deffinately aint.

A girl who is currently in Japan told me when she came back down here that the red bull in Thailand has speed in it. I didn't beleive and couldn't be bothered arguing but i guess she got confused with this.

Anyway, not sure if this is allowed (Moderators delete this if it isn't) but does anyone know if they sell these types of energy drinks here in Melbourne, perhaps at asian grocery store?
