I'm preparing a blog post with the working title "Why I use psychedelics", and for that, I'm gathering a list of viewpoints/arguments/condemnation styles that people hold against psychedelic/drug use. If you wanna help, you're welcome to list anything that comes to mind (even the most obvious or apparently stupid arguments). Any further discusson is also welcome.

You'll think you can fly and jump off building. (told this in elementary school)

You'll develop a never ending psychosis.

You'll rip your own eyes out. (anyone know any former accid freaks with no eyes?)

Promiscuous psychedelic sex.

Acid left in spinal cord cliche lie.

Helps support TERRORISM.

Non-Christian/satan embracing (damn puritans this is why we have no aztecs or maya)

Holes in brain (termed oilneys lesions , never proven in humans)

Encourages youthful rebellion against society.

Liberal tool to subvert youth.

Brave new world emulating scenario.

The only decent thing I can think of for abstaining is preexisting psychosis, or HPPD.

Any one remember the simpsons episode where the wax hippies are about to eat a sandwich with a baby in it? Lulz

Also, Olney's Lesions are only associated with NMDA antagonists, not "classical" serotonergic psychedelics.

I've heard a bunch of shit about why psychs shouldn't be used. First off, they are called "hallucinogens", and the experience of a trip is portrayed as terrifying (which it can be), but in a total "imaginary world way" with pink elephants and all that. Many say people use them just to "escape" reality and "see things", when in fact we all know it draws us in that much closer. Many say they are toxic, especially LSD, which is so non-toxic. They are often viewed as hard drugs, when that is just ridiculous. The general public has no idea of the therapeutic benefits of psychs. The brain bleeds, its stored in your spine, all that ridiculous shit. It is thought people do ridiculous things while under their influence, often suicidal or homicidal. Psychs should be encouraged for therapeutic reasons in my opinion. Out of all the drugs, they really don't carry much risk, no OD, no addiction etc. But people do not think this way.

When i was a kid, 12-13, my mom strayed me against psychedelics telling me that it was a gateway to madness. It opens up your mind to a world of utter brilliance, but then you know a little more than "they" want you to, dont you. Society is all up against a world of psychedelia, because we'd know of their little, convoluted mind games and make wiser choices against them.

Happy life

I'm just not sure that I would have a good experience, and, being one prone to certain mental illnesses, I'm just concerned that a bad trip could flip a certain switch on inside my brain that will have lasting, negative effects. I don't mean straight-jacket, padded walls, insane-asylum negative effects, but say that I'm prone to depression or bi-polar disorder or whatever, then a bad trip could flip that switch and there's no going back.

Then again, sometimes time and a new, monumental life experience can flip those switches without drugs. I've read/heard about unbelievably successful, bubbly and all-around happy individuals going away on a cruise for the first time with friends and for whatever reason they return home experiencing crippling depression. So who knows? But a bad trip is something I would definitely, definitely like to avoid.

What I don't understand is how people can rip on psychedelics when they have no experience. I mentioned LSD to my mom once and she said immediately, "Don't you ever do that shit, It'll fry your brain. Do you want to be a burnout?" I responded with, "How do you know this? Do you have experience?" She told me it was just common knowledge and I laughed my ass off. It's like someone who has never eaten a cheeseburger preaches to someone else about how bad they are. But how can you know with NO scientific studies or Personal Experience. God Damn I fucking hate ignorant people. One day I'll tell my mom the only reason I got straight A's in high school was because of my psychedelic use, ha-ha how ironic. Psychedelics for the Evolution of Man! :D

The world is full of people who can rationalize the use of various drugs. You can rationalize everything with enough will-power and logic.

Psychedelics are probably some of the most rational drugs to take. For the most part they are not addictive and provide the user with a sense of well-being after the trip is over. My psychonaut friend once said,

"A bad trip is more caused by the stress in your own life. Psychedelics will lead the way providing both insight and a solution to the problem."

A bad trip is such a weird concept. I feel like as long as you fully understand you have dosed a completley natural (shrooms), hallucinogenic substance and in no time YOU WILL BE BACK TO NORMAL, then everything should be cool right?

The being back to normal part is the most important thing to rememeber. Enjoy the experience and take it for wht it is.

I feel like one would have to take a very large amount to actually go through something SO tramatic, that it leads to to everlasting psychological effects. Be smart about what you take and you will be fine.
