Are you attacted to mates outside of your race?

I can't tell if you're being sarcastic or not by calling Lysis racist. But y'all should know that "mulatto" is a derogatory term. So be careful who you call racist when you use words like that.

i'm not offended at all?

it's kind of pointless to get offended when it's the only word for your ethnicity there is. -shrug-

How can you not tell if I'm being sarcastic or not? Well, I'm not going to tell you. Get in touch with CoffeeDrinker - he's a mod in the "words" forum - and discuss this with him.

I wasn't aware of mulatto being a racist term and have seen it used in non-racist ways much like the term "mestizo." Are you sure about that?

^I think of it as derogatory given its history, but I've also heard a mixed girl refer to herself as mulatto, so I guess it goes both ways.

Wow, I had no idea "mulatto" was a derogatory term. I guess that's why it's all in the intent. I thought that is what you called a mixed race person. Good to know, considering I would probably have said it IRL and had no idea it is offensive. lol

^how can it be offensive when I think most people don't even know what the word means?

The wikipedia entry does not specifically indicate it as a "pejorative" term or anything.
Some reject the term because of its association with slavery and colonial and racial oppression, preferring terms such as "mixed", "biracial"[citation needed], and "African-American" (in the United States).

I had no idea it was a racist term until I asked a black girl if Halle Berry was a mulatto or all black... Black girl's friend (also black) started to FLIP OUT on me until first black girl explained that me (the white girl) was from an all-white town where that word was probably not used racist-ly, but just as an "identifier" so to speak.

On thread: No, I'm not attracted to women outside of my race. Or at least I have never been up to this point.

In general, no, I am not usually attracted to women outside my 'race'. I am Caucasian. I find that more Caucasian women are fitting of the aesthetic I prefer than are other races. As for do I find interracial relationships 'weird'? No, why would I? Whatever and whoever you find appealing is a personal thing subject to a lot of factors and idiosyncraties.

It was used as a racial identifier up to early rounds of the US census, when the intent was clearly to differentiate mixed black and white people from white people. Here's a little more info on the racial terms of the era:

The term quadroon was used to designate a person of one-quarter African/Aboriginal ancestry, that is one biracial parent (African/Aboriginal and Caucasian) and one Caucasian parent; in other words, one African/Aboriginal grandparent and three Caucasian grandparents.[2]

The term mulatto was used to designate a person who was biracial, with one black parent and one white parent.[2]

The term octoroon referred to a person with one-eighth African ancestry;[3] that is, someone with family heritage of one biracial grandparent, in other words, one African great-grandparent and seven Caucasian great-grandparents. As with the use of "quadroon", this word was applied to a limited extent in Australia for those of one-eighth Aboriginal ancestry, in the putting in place of government assimilation policies.

Terceron was a term synonymous with "octoroon," derived from being three generations of descent from an African ancestor (great-grandparent).[4] The term mustee was also used to refer to a person with one-eighth African ancestry with mustefino refers to a person with one-sixteenth African ancestry.[2] The terms "quintroon" or "hexadecaroon" were also applied.

The term griffe or sambo has been used for someone of three-quarters African heritage, or the child of a biracial parent and a fully black parent. [2]

I don't care who other people date, but I'm mostly attracted to my own race (white), although Native American men catch my eye, and tall Hispanic men do as well, because height is more of a deal breaker for me than race anyway.
But it's all academic, being that I'm married.

for the record, mulatto is not racist.
mulatto = black + white
mestizo (latin america) = native american + white
zambo (also latin america) = native american + black
just my 0.02

also see 'a mulatto, an albino, a mosquito, my libido, yeah yeah yeah' (nirvana ;) )

i don't really care to be honest, and "biracial" is a bit shit and can mean any two races, same with mixed. mulatto is the only one that means distinctly one thing. in new orleans it didn't have the same feeling as it did in Oregon when i told my doctor i was mulatto and she blanched. of course since it's race related try and be polite and sensitive etc etc.

i've dated everyone under the sun -- native americans, spainards, hispanics, whites, carribean blacks, armenians, whatever. there is no preference really to me.

PS to OP

texas aint the deep south, and austin aint even texas. you practically live in san franciscio. ;)

LMAO!!!!!! I know, I LOVE living Austin, been here going on two years. I'm orginally from East Texas/West Louisiana...and trust me, all along the Sabine River is no different from Mississippi/Georgia/Alabama!

MyFinalRest: I take it you are not American? I'm not sure where you are from, but "mulatto" is not a common way to refer to someone biracial in the US. It's quite antiquated....like calling a full black person "Negro" or "Colored." It's not racist; just a little out of date. Well, at least where I live. :) Is it common where you are from? I'm not being bitchy, I'm seriously interested.

Yeah it is considered derogatory at least that's what my mom says all the time. I don't really care if someone calls me that tbh but there are better words to use.

I guess it depends on where you're from as well.

And to MyFinalRest wtf??? Black girls hair turns you off wow give me a fucking break. Most of the time black girls manage to get their hair done. Even my naturally curled hair is usually always straighten and you can't tell the difference of it. Also the black girls who don't take care of their hair is a whole other story...

Taking someone's subjective aesthetic preference and telling they are wrong about what they do or do not like. LOLWUT?

No its just stupid to me because its hair. Most of the time you can't tell the difference. Like there are even white girls with way more coarse hair than some black chicks.

Fuck yeah...I'm attracted to anyone with a dutty smile on a pretty face, and an ass to wiggle.

I generally don't go for blick women, but black women are nice, and mixed race girls are BUFF TINGS!

Other than that, there's something for everyone....but I'm greedy so I will sample whatever comes into my path.

I had no idea mulatto was considered derogatory; I still don't think that it is, really. It's such a pretty-sounding word, too, so it's unfortunate that the word would have any negative connotation.

I don't know, but I'll tell you this much: that I've never really been attracted to girls outside my race until just recently. I think I just love women, all women, black, white, and all shapes and sizes...
