the more I think about it, the more I realize that i've always been bored with the idea of reality. I've always gotten way more into video games, films, music etc than most other people do, I think because it always let me escape reality a bit. I've always been told i've got my 'head in the clouds', and it's true, I am a bit of a day dreamer. But like I said, reality has always seemed dry and boring to me.

I've recently gotten very interested in other cultures, religions, etc, particularly older cultures (native americans, etc) because they have such a different way of looking at and understanding the world. I want to look at things in different ways, I want there to be more to life and the world than what appears on the surface. Would it be a good idea to experiment with psychedelics?

No reason why you shouldn't, provided you're not on any medications and don't have any outstanding mental health issues. Be warned though, if you go into an experience hoping for it to change you in such a specific way, you're likely to be disappointed.

Well you know, games, films, music, anthropology, etc. are all a part of reality. I don't want to presume, but I think you may not be as bored as you think you are!

Yeah they are, especially Mushrooms and DMT could be of interest to you. I think you already understand the gist of psychedelics*, given your interest. What's left to you now is exploration, your idea of reality will be shredded and put back together in a completely different way.

That being said, if you're scared of escapism you should really make it a point to space out your trips. Don't think anyone wants to trip every day for a long time, but a lot of people think that form of reality is "better" and are then lost in it. Derealization (and friends) can be a real problem.

*One never truly does, but I take it you've read a whole bunch. If not, try Erowid trip reports, especially those with 2 or 3 stars. Also, try some Terrence McKenna talks. Your interests align with what he talks about.

I felt the same way when I first gained an interest in psychedelics, so I can say you don't sound like the wrong type. However, there's no way we can predict how you will react to them, there are always risks involved.

If you do decide to indulge, I would recommend limiting your trips to once a month at the most frequent, it really works out better that way. And be sure to approach your revelations with skepticism and rationality, so as not to become a loony New Age type.

Seconded.
