Are Psychedelics just not for me?

I also would like to input that I generally prefer tripping alone, or at least I find it more comfortable by far, because for me, social dynamics are the most difficult parts of trips to navigate. The disadvantage to this is that you don't have someone else there to help you out or watch you if things get too crazy.

Personally, I used to have a lot of confidence issues in general, and especially when tripping, because I'd always trip with others and feel too many vibes. I began tripping by myself when I moved across the country in 2005 after I graduated college. After a while and a number of key trips, I became MUCH more comfortable with tripping, and myself. Now, I can trip with others and feel much more confident in myself, and in fact, I just plain feel more confident in myself, period. :)

Yeah, I've decided that next time I trip it will be on a slightly lower dose and I will be alone (or perhaps with only one very close friend). Another thing I forgot to add in my original post was that when I had tripped with friends, in retrospect we really approached the process stupidly. I live in a big city, and we were outside during the entirety of the trip. Because I didn't know them that well, I chose to keep my mouth shut and just go with the flow. This was a bad choice, because I constantly had this ridiculous feeling of "Everyone knows I'm tripping, I'm gonna get caught, etc." which I feel was a major factor that sent me into an almost panic attack-like state during my second trip. I think tripping alone and in a secluded area would be a far better experience for me personally, so I'm going to try that out.

It is almost certain that the set and setting you describe here are at least in part responsible for the anxiety and paranoia. I usually suggest low-stimuli experiences for newbies. Many things happening at once on a psych can cause panic (which is what I would expect from doing your first trips in the streets of a city). Comfortable temperature (weather if outside) is also very important IMO for inexperienced psychonauts (IE keep yourself warm and dry).

Let us know how things go, fellow tripper! ;)

Funny you mention the weather actually - it was a brisk overcast winter day. Definitely not optimal tripping weather by any means. And yeah, I'll definitely update this the next time I trip (which should be pretty soon). Thanks for all the support.

Perhaps try a different substance... like Peyote, San Pedro, Ayahuasca or Iboga.

Also... I'd take a break from ALL DRUGS/PSYCHOACTIVES for a few months.
