Well I'm training for a marathon. 8o But I love to have the occasional, and sometimes very occasional, trip to just relax. I'm going to list the substances that are being used next to a number that indicates how often it is being used. From 1: once every 6 months or less. To 10: daily And I'd like an opinion about if it's drastically hurting me. As I'm in pretty good shape at the moment.

Tobacco: 7 (but quitting. Was 2 weeks free then had a couple puffs a few days ago)

Codeine: 7-10

(*Meth)Amphetamines: Only done it once (today) but planning on being a 5-8

*unsure if it was methamphetamines or just amphetamines.

Marijuana: 1, but once off probation will be 5-10 hopefully.

Other Misc. Opiates: 3

MDPV: 0, but will be 2-8 soon. (hopefully)

---If any of this violates any rules please delete it, and I'm sorry. Also if this is in the wrong section please move it to the correct section.---

So please tell me what you guys think. I know this list may seem disturbing but I do these responsibly.

Thank you,

I got confused because you used the term "trip" but failed to list and psychedelics. I am assuming you meant the occasional buzz/high.

Either way, that's not the point. The smoking definitely cuts down your endurance but I am assuming you know that already. When you get off probation i recommend edible weed treats because pot has even more tar than tobacco so while you won't be smoking as much weed in a day as you would tobacco it still will have an effect on your running. And be careful with the meth and particularly the MDPV. I can't describe the horror stories people have posted involving MDPV, more often than not after only binging on it much less being dependent. I don't know you or your history of drug use but planning to not over abuse drugs doesn't always work.

Hey Shanx, I'm running a marathon in July. Go us! :)

Okay, it really all depends on how serious you are getting about your running. If you are aiming to complete the race in the best time possible, with minimal injuries and maximum focus, in my opinion ALL of the drugs you listed are going to impede your ability to do so.

But in reality, we all like to indulge every now and then, even if we're in training. So it might not be realistic for us to tell you to cut out everything.

But I would strongly recommend that you completely cut out the following:
*tobacco (which you are already quitting)
*(meth)amphetamine
*smoking marijuana
*MDPV

The reasons being:
1. Any drugs whereby you inhale the smoke will seriously decrease your lung capacity. This is pretty fucking important for long distance running. If you can't get enough oxygen to your muscles you'll suffer fatigue a lot faster. It will also make your recovery harder and less pleasant.
2. Any stimulants could increase the pressure you're putting on your heart. Long distance running already increases the workload of your heart so why put it under even more stress with the use of stimulants??

Opiates, if used sparingly, are fine I reckon. The main harm they could do is decrease your motivation to train (which is important as well of course).

You didn't mention alcohol.....do you drink at all??

I suspect you know all of this though, and were just seeking affirmation ;) Good luck with your training!! When's the race?

I just wanted to add that snorting stuff (as I'm sure you will be with the PV) can be as bad or worse than smoking.
I am a cyclist, so in that respect, an endurance athlete, and I don't smoke cigarettes, I have no idea how you can do that and run...

I like to enjoy a spliff at the top of a ride, and I usually do 30+ miles each way, and I ride hard, it doesn't seem to effect me too badly, I ride well in a lower competitive category, but if I ever wanted to step up I'd obviously have to stop all drugs.

If you do well in the marathon, you are probable going to be tested, fyi.
And if today was your first time taking amphetamines, keep it few and far between and try to find stuff like adderall or dexedrine instead of street speed.
As for opiates - I don't notice much of an effect except that I can go too hard one day and be in more pain the next if I'm not careful.

Good luck on your marathon. Don't DNF, you'll embarrass BL. ;)

tobacco would be my biggest concern. MDPV and meth too.

as for weed, if you're smoking high grade stuff and only take two or three hits a session, it's not going to be that bad. if you're smoking lower-quality pot in joints/blunts that's going to cause you problems. if you want to keep indulging with minimal negatives, i'd recommend a vape. i almost always vape before runs, and personally think it's wonderful.
