Arctic Monkeys

yeah I could def see that as a comparison. the Strokes never tried to grow really, or maybe they did, it just didn't sound the way that they wanted to

incidentally, here are the Monkeys covering my ALL-TIME FAVE Strokes song:

and also here is a song from Cornerstone that I think is a perfect mixture of their future sound to their past sound. I have a feeling you would dig, Miss K:

thats your favorite strokes song for real?

damn alex turner looks like a little baby. what year is that?

the strokes had such promise. is this it is still one of my top 10 albums, its perfect top to bottom. that was also the first album i ever bought for myself so i might be a bit biased. more than a little bit, i love that album. but they had a sound that didn't lend itself to development or growth, and they all got married or fucked winona ryder and it all fell apart because they were busy watching sex and the city. god i fucking loved that band, 21 year old boys with spotty faces and stupid haircuts and sexy jeans. i applaud the arctic monkeys for never getting stuck in that hole.

I think Alex Turner is a great lyricist but I find the band fucking boring - especially the new album. You can tell Turner has spent some time with Josh Homme just lately.

lately? I love Josh Homme, but Alex Turner has been stuck in Hommeville ever since Humbug

Keni - yeah, that is my favorite Strokes song! you know I like stuff that rocks. well "heart in a cage" also, cuz of dat beat. and yeah that is early Alex Turner, I think from the first album

speaking of covers, the Arctic Monkeys have some great ones:

"baby, I'm yours," from the Barbara Lewis (60s soul)
"come together," from the The Beatles (gawd what band hasn't covered this?)
"diamonds are forever," from Shirley Bassey
"love machine" from Girls Aloud (LOL)
"red right hand," from the Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds
"you know I'm no good" from Amy Winehouse
and I heard they cover a Drake song now?

man, I seriously love this Girls Aloud song:

there is a drum machine in the this tune, but whatever, looks like it was done in a rather cheeky fashion for some radio show. OMFG I'm talking about Girls Aloud on Bluelight. I just posted that song to my brother's FB, he will fucking die over it. I'm in such a great mood now, thanks :)
