I have been on Suboxone for 8 months and it totally saved me from a 5 year addiction. However 3 weeks ago I had a box of 60 Sub's stolen from my home. My Dr made it very clear in the beginning that they will not replace lost or stolen subs so I went into panic mode fearing withdrawal. I ended up taking percocets and for the last 12 days 75m Fent patches. I wore them and replaced every 2 to 3 days. I am now able to refill my sub's script so will be taking this last patch off in a few days and going back on Subs. The last time I went through this transition I only waited about 7 hrs and took 1 8mg sub, then repeatedly took one every hr for 3 hrs. This obviously was the worst thing I could have done and I went through the worst withdrawal I ever could have imagined. Ive been doing alot of reading online and it looks like waiting 24 hrs is my best bet although I am very nervous wether I can go that long. My question is what if during that 24 period I took a few halfs of perc 10's to try and make things not as bad. I also dont know what to expect as far as how many days this process will take before I can function enough to go back to work. I have to go back 2.5 days after taking fent patch off. Any info anyone can share would be appreciated. It really sucks being clean for 8 months only to have been forced back onto opiates. :(

I have been there, it sucks. Suboxone is a monster in it's own right. I was on it for over two years, and though it helped me stay clean from heroin it had other nasty side effects...I am back on the dope now and plan on getting off, but I am just going to cold turkey it. I would definitely wait 24 hours, though waiting that long is difficult for me when Im used to shooting up 5 times a day/night. Last week I took a break for 4 days and used some suboxone but it barely worked!!! I was pissed. I did take it too early..about 12 hours after my last shot when I thought it would be safe and i got the worst withdrawals I had ever had for the night! Never doing that again. I notice the lower mg of Suboxone you take, the less likely you will have adverse effects. 4 mg seems to do it for me just fine, I cut a 8mg strip in half.

I feel for you kennedy going cold turkey is the worst. When my addiction was at its worst I was sucking on 100mg fent patches daily and doing 20 to 30 perks a day! And alot of times I would run out of opiates and be forced to do cold turkey. Withdrawal from heavy opiate/heroin use is the worst thing I think a person can through. It is a 1 to 2 punch between the mental and physical apects of it. I actually never did heroin but I sure the withdrawal can be long lasting like the fentynal. Weeks and even months of hell. Stay hydrated when you go cold turkey and try to go for walks it can help a little.
My plan tomorrow is to take my patch off at 1 when I get out of work and then just do small amounts of perk when things get hard to tolerate. I will do that for the first 12 hrs and then the second 12 hr Im going to attempt to not do anything. That will be the hard part. I have to be back at work tuesday so I have to do this right. What do you think about me doing the perks kennedy? Do you think it will mess things up when I go to do the sub?

If you have any opioids on your receptors, taking buprenorphine is going to rip them off and give you precipitated withdrawals that will probably last for a short period. Most people would rather push through the 24 hours (or however long it takes for them personally, it varies and the best method of determining when to take it is the COWS - Clinical Opiate Withdrawal Scale, which you can easily find online) then have to deal with preciptiated-withdrawal but if you would prefer that, then go for it.

This varies quite a bit from individual to individual so some people can take buprenorphine a short period after using agonists and others can not so it's really difficult to say. Your best bet is trying to mitigate the symptoms during that 24 hours with another type of drug or just push through but understand if you can't, you may feel like absolute hell for a brief period when the suboxone starts to take effect if you use opioids in that window.

Thank you Cane for giving it to me straight. Thats what I needed to hear. Can I ask you a few questions that you may or may not be able to answer? Are their any over the counter (legal) medications you would recommend that would help mitigate the withdrawal? And if I time it properly do you think after I take the suboxone that it will eliminate the majority of the withdrawal being that I only have been on the subs for 2.5 weeks. And prior to that I was on subs for 8 months straight. Thanks again

I thought I would give anyone reading this an update. I tell you trying to figure out suboxone and the do's and dont's can be confusing but what I did over the last 24 hrs shouldnt have worked if you believe everything they tell you about transitioning from opiates to suboxone. Yesterday at 2pm I took of fentynal patch and it took about 3.5 hrs before some minor withdrawal symptoms began. 5 hrs after taking patch off the clamy skin and hot and cold flashes began so I did a half of a 10mg percocet. That helped with the symptoms and I fell asleep for a few hrs. But then woke up to worse symptoms than before so I did another half of a 10mg percocet. I repeated this process all night as my symptoms escalated. Finally at 9 am this morning I took a 1/4 piece of an 8mg/2mg suboxone. Within a 45 minutes the clamy skin and RLS began to subside. At 10 I did another same piece. Now (10:30) other than being tired from lack of sleep and a headache Im ok. I do think that transitioning from opiates to suboxone can vary from person to person though. Opiate addiction is the worst thing I have ever been through so I feel for anyone that has or is trying to get clean.

idk how long the patches will keep the drug in your system after you take them off but rule of thumb if your fully wding you can do bupe i wait hours even though after 6 i'm starting to wd cause if i don't i get sick as shit
