Whenever I eat apples I feel a swelling in my throat and breathing becomes a little more difficult, this happens with a few other fruits as well, for example cherries.

The odd thing is I can drink apple or cherry juice with no problem. Even apple sauce is fine.

Any idea if some possible allergy could be behind this or what?

Do you get organic apples? You might be allergic to the pesticides they're sprayed with.

That's the only thing I can think of. I have no idea if anyone can be allergic to pesticides, but I don't see why someone couldn't be...

Also, there's a wax put on some fruits/vegetables to make 'em shiny and to protect them a little bit more than their skin can... I forget what types they use, but mostly it's beeswax. I have seen synthetic waxes on fruits but can't recall the name...

No, they aren't organic, but they were washed prior to consumption. It always seems to happen with any apples I've ever had for some reason. Perhaps it has something to do with the wax...?

My friend says she is allergic to most pollinated fruits. How do strawberries sit with you?

I'd try soaking them in water over an extended period of time all at once. Just a quick wash isn't going to work because much of the pesticide has absorbed deeper into the apple. Before eating I'd also peel the apple because that would be sure to help as well.
