I used to be heavy into hard rock and heavy metal when I was 13-18 in the 80's, then I got into classic rock for awhile, and now I even like some of the stuff I used to Hate! So I have also become much, much more flexible in the music I like.

And you.....?

I think that everyones musical taste changes as they mature. I've always listened to classic rock since i was 11 or 12 years old, when i got in high school i started listening to more rap and metal. Now i listen to whatever I'm in the mood for, mostly early 90's rock, classic rock and a little bit of rap. I hate most mainstream music now...it seems like the music industry is in the worst shape its been in ever..so much crap

Of course!

Most obvious case is that I used to absolutely hate rap (I'd only heard the radio/tv shit) but now I listen to loads of it. Same with loads of genres really, nowadays I have a very eclectic taste, only stuff I can't enjoy is chart music really..

Totally. Growing up, I listened to R&B then moved onto "gangster rap" as a teen, then Bob Marley. In college is where my music tastes really broadened to include artists like Portishead, DAFT Punk, Beatles and other "Rock/Techno" bands I would've dismissed as an angry teen :)

Now I like a little of everything (minus Top 40 shit). Current faves are Deadmau5, OutKast, Santogold, Res, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Modest Mouse, The Black Keys, MGMT and Erykah Badu.

yup i never really like music in high school. but in my freshman year of college, my roomate was a blood or affiliated never really knew. but he got me into mixtape rap and the like. i was all about rap for about a year after that. then i slowly got into sublime and any bands that were about using drugs and getting fucked up. i actually chose music if it mentioned drugs. kinda silly thinking about it now but it worked out well i fell in love with everything from classic rock to grunge, to hardcore to screamo and all that good shit.

i really like just about everything as long as i dont hear it 40 million times or its on the radio.

Yea, a lot of mainstream music makes me feel ill. There is plenty of good music being made all of the time though.

This song came out this year. And so did this one. And they're both like the best songs I've ever heard.

When I was a kid I was into classical because of band and I "had" to. Then I heard Nirvana on MTV and I listened to alternative rock from age 7-a few years ago. Then I heard Yes/King Crimson/Genesis and fell in love with "prog rock". Lately I have been into fusion jazz like weather report and Return to Forever. Psych rock always has a special place in my heart though(beatles, flaming lips, animal collective, helio sequence).

absolutely. used to love rap; now i abhor it. classical is the only music that keeps me intellectually interested nowadays.

i've also gone from constantly listening to music (at least 8-10 hours a day) to now rarely listening to music (1-2 hours a week).

So what you're saying is you'd like to hear "Freebird" or "Stairway to Heaven" fifty million more times? LOL

Yeah I agree that today's music industry is putting out some real crap.....There are a few good songs here and there, but not much, and these groups are making more $$ than ever before, even though they dont deserve it.

I wouldnt even waste my time downloading their music for free!

I likes rap, a little, back in the day(late 80's - early 90's) mainly because of the
newness of it, and its boldness at first, but then it all started to sound the same, and there isnt much creativity in it anymore. Its all just "deal drugs, treat your bitch like shit, shoot someone, go to jail, die, etc." It is clearly a terrible influence on the black community, and has been for some time.:(

They've expanded a lot. I used to stick to metal/rock in my early teens, then moved onto EBM/future pop, then psytrance & a bit of digital hardcore.

Now I listen to all sorts, but most of music collection is made up of blues, darkstep, electroclash, alternative rap (stuff like Rhyme Sayers), future garage, 60's rock/soul, post punk, outlaw country, breakcore/IDM, dub, new school breaks, acoustic, post rock, psybient, house, & maybe a bit of industrial rock.

i think i listen to the same stuff (genre) wise as i always have since i started listening to music on my own, just different artists

i still like pop music (when younger, madonna, now lady gaga), metal (when younger, Black Sabbath, now The Melvins, iwrestledabearonce, Acid Bath) punk (adolescents, now more proto punk)...not much has changed, just the artists, ya know?

i still have the same mild feelings i've always had with classical music, country, and techno music.

i went from classic rock --> progressive rock ---> post-rock ---> shoegaze & IDM, then got into rap, then freshman year of college, classical & indie (everything from krautrock to twee pop)

I went from listening to 80's rock, hip hop and strange pop music, to commercial stuff off the radio, back to rock and into metal and going from there into the abyss of all music good and proper.

THe only thing I don't listen to that I used to would be the shitty pop music from the 90's that all me & my mates would have played at parties - everything else I still like, even though I may not have listened to it in a while.

I attribute my eclectic music tastes to my parents, and I could never thank them enough.

no what im saying is that if i hear any song 50 million times i get sick of it. even those songs. thats why i like a wide variety of music. so its fresh. i go through periods where i only listen to one band but then i kinda get sick of all their shit and wont listen to them for awhile.

I'm pretty sure most of this list has been in the Top 40 from time to time.

Mine has definitely changed. Growing up I had different phases of some stuff but quickly realized that I just love music in general.

The only thing these days that I dont get down on is country. I am always listening to music but ill go through a cycle. Like some hip hop, rock, and then maybe ill start listening to dnb again.

I'm always looking forward. I love new music, or discovering older music I missed along the way.

Music just keeps getting better and better. I don't think I'll ever get stuck in an era, or a genre. I made that mistake when I was younger. I grew up and learned to appreciate it all.

Funny when you think of it, because most people's parents did the opposite. They grew up and got more closed-minded.

haha its funny you say that^ about your parents.

i try to talk to music from my dads era 60-70s. and i know more music and more about the artists then he does haha!!
