I just got this email from the AKA. Do you guys think they'll actually succeed in banning Kratom now? I really hope not. I know they've tried this before. I hope everyone here sends messages to the appropriate senate and congress office and lets them know we are NOT ok with this:

Dear Kratom Advocate,
We need your voice right now. Please read through the State Updates below but we have a terrible new Federal Issue to address.
A group of U.S. Senators, led by Senator Ricketts, has sent a letter to the FDA urging action to schedule kratom—relying on outdated information, media sensationalism, and a failure to distinguish between natural kratom and dangerous synthetic products.
This is a serious threat to kratom consumers nationwide.
Letters like this are often the first step toward formal federal action. If left unchallenged, they can quickly lead to proposed legislation or regulatory moves that could ban or criminalize natural kratom.
We cannot afford to wait until a bill is filed. By then, it may be too late.
We must act now to set the record straight and stop momentum before it builds.

I'm incredibly concerned. This is not 2016; anti-7-OH propaganda is at an all time high, and a general sense of kratom prohibitionism has been sweeping across the country at a state level for months now. The extremely liberal selling and inaccurately dosing/mislabeling 7-oh products across the country has lead to its demonization, and of course ignorant legislators are prepared to throw the baby out with the bath water and prohibit kratom as well (not that 7-oh is 'bath water' per se, all prohibition is misguided). I don't think it has helped that the American Kratom Association has contributed to the 7-oh hysteria and I don't really know how they expected a 7-oh ban to occur without kratom itself being impacted but I digress.

I really think the AKA has been stupid about it. I don't know why they'd think lawmakers would draw any distinction. But I have to hear from others here.

Do you all think this ban is really going to happen on a NATIONAL level? I don't really know that it will. And if it did, how long do you think we'd have?

Let's hope precedence drives this. Letters were sent to the FDA again. The FDA did their own research on leaf and determined it was safe. The AKA, (yes I have my annoyance with them) has faced a lot of potential laws face on. I mean the DEA backed off in 2016. Deja vew? Precedence

I don't trust any area of government right now. It is the wild west. But my opinion is precedence and the AKA, who also have some ex political figures in there, will do what they do. The seem to tackle states and win. It is hard to make natural things illegal. And part of the wild west we live in is I think anything goes. 7-oh was a specific thing, Made illegal. Yet I read online people still get it?? WTF

Forget logic, until we get decency back running things I got faith in nothing but my own higher power. I'll call her Mother Nature. None of these senators could scrape a ball of dirt together and wing it around the sun 67,000 miles and hour. Fuck em.

I have letter saved if it comes to that. But the FDA already went through that.

EDIT: When I say I don't trust anyone in a place of power right now I mean it. But I am giving Chuck Rosenberg credit from 2016. He read the letters and made the decision to back off making it illegal. That was very decent. We can thank him that the leaf flows up till now.

I’m not convinced that a national ban will happen, nor do I necessarily think it’s very likely. But it is absolutely possible, and realistically could happen pretty swiftly although there would inevitably be a shit ton of pushback. Anything could happen here but the bottom line is prohibition can happen so easily whenever the media latches onto a substance. Science and reality are meaningless in the world of legislation

Well, I just contacted my senators. I'm assuming you already have as well, but PLEASE everyone here do it!

Other than that, all we can do is "be prepared"...
