Hello. I will put this in short, because I have to go, and I hope I will have answer when I get back.

Can anyone who produces EDM successfully tell me what I need to know and do in order to. Possibly send me some links, I want to know everything. I will learn it no matter how much it is, I'm good at that.

I mainly want to produce Progressive House, Techno, Minimal Techno, you know, the clubbing genres. Electro house is not my style, sounds are too... spoiled.

If you can help me out with a site that offers good samples (I am aiming for free samples for starters) you have my thanks.

I will practice it until it becomes second nature.

well what do you need to know? i think you should look up basic music theory for a start maybe. easy to find samples for percussion and soft synths.

what are you using btw? cubase? loops? etc

I need to know how to make all these cool synths and synergy between sounds, how to decide which sample I should use, what settings should I normally set on it, things like that. I use FL Studio and I'm making stuff only by ear and musical taste. I need to know how the pros make their productions, you know, how to render it in such quality and etc.

Proper Bass use together with synths to make the whole track a trip, things like that.

well that will take time. if youve got a good ear for music then thats a good start. if i was you i wouldnt try to emulate any other producers unless for say comparing levels or whatever. do your own thing. soft synths will come with presets that you can tweak but if youre just wanting to learn then use the presets. many of the pros keep their mastering methods to themselves tbh. i think t-racks is a pretty good tool for mastering.

There are tons of tutorials. Pick you're software first.
Production takes hours of learning software. Learn FLs or Reason I guess. Learn live, grab tons of vsts. Then once you have some interest cause you can make shit using just vsts... learn the ins and outs of what you can do with effects. In synths and stand alones.
Drums. Lots and lots of drums. Talk to people as your in the process. Meet musicians. Sit in on their sessions. Learn how honestly most electronic music can be easily structured. Its dj friendly most of the time so its mathematically and structurally uniform.
But also don't conform. Make all different kinds of SHIT, literally. Have fun. Give you're ears a break from time to time but be prepared to put years into this.

When starting out you can really easily make tracks using sample packs and not much of you're own sounds. Listen to how ambience can be easily created with a couple pads and different sounds in the right place.
That has a lot to do with it to. Learn the basics of mastering and how less is more. Electronic music is so often overdriven. Redlined to shit. Subtlety is the key. Fitting all those frequencies into your track, less is more. Use limiters. Slap izotope ozone over your master channel. Learn compression and eqing. Mixdowns, etc.etc.etc....

Probably getting ahead of myself there

Lol adam you probably read that before I edited it.... Its hard sometimes not to be a dick with how much it really takes.
Learn how to mix too, please, just for me learn how to spin. Beatmatching, phrasing... The lost art nowadays

i dont think he wants in on the djing/mixing side of things, anyway its all a learning curve

Natural progression. It puts you in contact with the rest of the heads. Gives you an ear for sounds and key, and a basic knowledge of this music.
Djing is so big a part of this why not learn it? Learn how it feels to put 2 tracks together tightly. Rock some crowds get some inspiration for when you need it.

minor off topic gripe: it really pisses me off when producers are booked to dj based on their tracks, even though they cant read a crowd or mix for shit

It was just something I knew I needed to learn... It gave me the ability to put samples together easily. To learn how to get shit cracking...Fuck it it is off topic though.
He said minimal techno though and my points on mastering and compression are important.

Learn Ableton Live. Scour torrent sites for samples and vst/vsti's those genres you're talking about will all have sample packs. Search for techno house trance and breaks sample packs

my advice is to steal ur samples and synths, Arturia makes the best synths, kontakt has a lot of great content but i use arturia synths a lot more. They are what you are looking for. Get Komplete 4 for drums and every other sound u need, tons of samples. Gold baby samples are amazing as well.

"DO ALL THIS!"

Lol just don't get overwhelmed OP. That's my best advice. Do things how you want. Worst thing you can do IMO is spend more time sample/VST hunting than in your DAW. If you have FL, then sytrus is a great little synth. If you have ableton, operator is awesome.

also get a midi keyboard with sliders and knobs. I got one for $50 and it is amazing for playing with synths, the sounds you can make are endless and overwhelming at times.

by mixing the track down and then getting it mastered properly -you will need moniter speakers to do this but i would ignore that till you can make a whole solid track that is not just loops and samples.

how often is it that you go into a club and the music is crystal clear? not too often i bet. going off topic a bit forgot what the question was

While I agree with the others that you should start simple, if you search Mr. Bill Ableton on youtube you can find some really cool effects tutorials and watch from 1st person how a master does it. It would be good to watch just as inspiration and motivation for now. If you don't start simple and learn the basics first, you will probably end up spending hours on an epic piece but it will end up sounding like shit and (in my experience) will be overcomplicated and hard to fix.
