Anyone notice how some people are drawn to certain drugs?

For example I'm drawn to all sorts of gabaergics (shame they are so addictive) with ghb being my favourite, some stims (mostly the reuptake inhibitors (and by that I mean mostly eph which is one of my favourite stims) and not releasers) and the occasional dis and and psy (but not that often and mostly lowish doses).
On the other hand I've never been drawn to opiates (except if I needed them for some bad pain), nicotine.

And emphatogens are something that I may try once or twice just to see how it's like but have no real desire to do them often.

Weed also has absolutely no draw for me, tried it a few times on friends insistance, didn't like it and that's that (didn't have any bad experiences, just the feeling was something that didn't appeal to me.

Does anyone else notice anything similar in themselves?

Yes, it has to do with our own neurotransmitter deficiencies I believe. You need true GABA supplementation.

Yeah, definitely have some problems with that. Mostly because I like the talkative person (vs. the quiet one without them) that I become while using gabaergic drugs.

Also, you sure GABA would help, as far as I've heard it doesn't really cross the blood-brain barrier?

Topic is done to death

Yes just about everyone who does drugs has 1 particular category/drug that stays close to their hearts. IMHO depends on personality, how they grew up, and unique brain chemistry.

I love opiates to death, they make me lose all restraint. But I cannot stand amphetamines. They make me feel worse and I don't understand how anyone could see them as euphoric or recreational. I could live happily for the rest of my life if I never saw a stim again.

Yeah, the only opiate I tried was o-desmethyltramadol (so I'm not really the guy to judge other drugs of this class) and while it was great for pain (and it would be nice to have a stash in case otc pain killers didn't do their job) in never really enjoyed it that much - either it did nothing much too my mood in lower doses or just made me dizzy and sick and higher doses. Still it pretty much convinced that opiates aren't really the drug for me.

I've noticed this. Although people say not to stereotype, sometimes it can be true (but obviously not for everyone). I've noticed people who enjoyed the same type of music and lifestyle would always end up drawn to specific types of drugs.

Yep, I don't like uppers personally. Anything that makes me really talkative and energetic just bugs me and pisses me off. On the other hand opiates and, to a lesser extent, benzos, are, well, my favorite thing in the world.
I think it's just because I'm not a very energetic or enthusiastic person as it is, so I don't like myself when I become so. My idea of a good time is more to relax and listen to music. So it all comes down to personality (plus possibly the person's emotional background) imo.

I've always been drawn to opiates since I was 14 when I first experimented with Hydrocodone before any other drug. Maybe because it was the first drug I ever tried? Not sure, but years later I'm still all about them. I'll take an opiate over almost anything else without second thought.

On the other hand, my best friend who is like me in a lot of ways is all about uppers, mainly Amphetamines and Meth. So it's hard for me to pinpoint what makes certain people drawn to certain drugs. To each their own I suppose.

This kind of subject belongs in Drug Culture. However, it is so general and vague and has indeed be done so many times that I'm just going to close it.
