Anyone into Bauhaus (the band)?

Always had a passing interest, saw loads of their shows around the time of Bella Lugosi as I lived in Northampton, their home town.

Anyway Pete Murphy, lead singer.

You probably recall the trouble Bauhaus frontman Peter Murphy got into back in March when he was arrested in Glendale, California for driving under the influence of drugs, hit-and-run and possessing crystal meth. Police reports said he appeared confused and even had difficulty recalling what day it was.

Although the goth legend initially pleaded not guilty to all three charges, he changed his tune when he was sentenced on October 10 in a Los Angeles court. Murphy plead no contest to misdemeanor hit-and-run driving and guilty to the methamphetamine possession charge, as reported by Glendale News.

The singer must also attend 45 days of Narcotics Anonymous meetings, perform ten days of community service and submit to random drug tests.

Not exactly an advert for crystal meth. He looks about 106 (he's 56).

He looked in fine fettle playing Bauhuas tunes with his new band in summer. I went with my gf tripping on Al-Lad, quite soon after it appeared. My gf wrote her dissertation (top of her class & passed with distinctions :) ) on Psychedelic elements in the music of Bauhaus so obviously the opportunity for some field research was impossible to ignore. The crowd was intense, pushinh through them for a piss was one of the toughest things I've ever had to do, & getting back to the front afteeards was performed with no concern for my fellow Bauhausians. I basically physically FORCED my way through about 1000 8foot goths n leather & I'm only fucking little! I don't do well in crowds at the best of times & there were a couple of fight or flight moments where I managed to restrain the panic. Came out of that gig feeling a couple lives short of the nine I went in with!

Wouldn't change shit though, was a STUNNING gig. I've seen Murphy play his own material, & a Bauhaus gig back in 2005 that was curtailed due to an effects-board failure! & I've been a fan since the mid 80's when I was introduced to the Lords of Goth in the middle of sunny Africa.

So yeah, Bauhaus. There aren't many bands around like Bauhaus!

just heard my first two tracks today i like but the damned are better more my style

Goths and stims, whatever next? =D

Used to love them, but not listened/flounced around to them in a while.

Shadow of Love rocks I fucking love that track, got about 4 versions!

So is this now the EADD Old School Gothic Rock Flashback To The 80's thread? If so I might hang around in EADD a bit longer than usual, so long as no-one fucking dies! 8o

Black humour... alot of that in Goth, don't you know..?

Ooh, yes, you should hang around, Si. :)

Aye, Andrew Eldritch is the master of black humour. I quite fancy seeing Sisters again at some point.

Has anyone ever been to Slimelight? (Either recently or back in the day.)

Haha I been working my way through my favourite Goth acts. Saw the Sisters live-ish a couple years ago at the Roundhouse. There was NO bassist & I have suspicions regarding how live the guitars were, but it was a cracking concert either way. I've seen The Cult a few times, once back in 88, at Wembley Arena. Shit venue, shit gig. Then they toured Love a couple years ago, awsome gig, & then they played Hammersmith, another good one.

I'm not fond of The Mission, but I'd like to see Fields of The Nephilim. Pity they have to gig together! Pah!

Aw, sadly I missed out on the 80s scene, so for me it's mainly clubnights rather than gigs.

I do prefer the Nephilim, but the Mission have some brilliant tunes.

I don't mind the odd one, that ain't bad!

Can't really post anything else in this thread without adding a link to the finest piece of rock music ever made. I'll leave the preview up for this one -

It was a belter in its day that track St. Ingwe. I think I've over listened to it unfortunately so it no longer has the impact on me that it should. Such an adrenalin poundingly brilliant track, before it got old. I really have to try to not to overlisten to music that i like, it invariably spoils the pleasure. One of the best ways of doing this is to constantly find new music, but sometimes i cannot be bothered. Ive not even listened to the Ting Tings 2nd album which is terribly lazy of me considering how much I loved their first album and their one off single "Hands". :\

During pre-ban Mephedrone i went through an explosion of getting into new music and attending live gigs in small venues for the up and coming bands or 'underground' bands. At other times ive been a bit like Jeremy Clarkson and not moved on since Dire Straits or whoever his favourite band is (xept my bands were indie bands). He reckons that if middle aged people get into new music, then what is left for the kids. But fuck that attitude, although i know what he means I prefer John Peel's approach in that just because you turn a certain age it doesnt mean you should stop listeniong to newmusic/going to gigs or w/e.

Off the top of my head I think One by Metallica is one of the finest rock songs ever recorded.

Yeah, that Cult track is still a belter. I'm not sure Metallica belong here though. :p

Also this thread is incomplete without this:

Love Like Blood, nice! Sanctuary kinda set the template for great techno/trance music too... driving & euphoric for a while, short break down, back to driving & euphoric again!

I have alot of time off music, in order to keep things fresh, & there will always be good new music to find, even if it has to be old, new music! Lol

I'm jealous of Stone, seeing Bauhaus back in the early days!

errrrr hahahaha someone hasn't been entirely honest about their age, perhaps? ;)

I'd beat a hasty retreat from this thread if I were you!

Bela Lugosi's Dead is a great tune. Haven't heard anything else by them though, although I like their style and image.
