I've already posted more than my fair share of messages on this forum about alcohol, but there is one last question I'd like to ask. Has anyone found any meaningful reduction in alcohol cravings by using L-glutamine or kudzu? I've already tried the standard 3 drugs for alcoholism (acamprosate, naltrexone, disulfiram) as well as baclofen and none have helped me. I haven't yet tried topiramate but given its profile of cognitive dysfunction and depression I'd rather find something else. I'm hoping to quit alcohol soon, at least for a period if I can't stay off it forever, and cannabis has helped but I've been diagnosed with ADHD and the doctors here (Australia) refuse to prescribe stimulants if there's even a hint of THC in a patient's bloodstream, so I have to cut it out. I've Googled this question and have come up with the statements that L-glutamine and kudzu can help, but these two substances have not been subjected to full-scale clinical trials and the usual answer I get is that they "might be helpful in reducing alcohol cravings for some people". Kratom is illegal here so that's not an option. I've already tried AA multiple times over the years and it's just not for me, I feel likely to exit meetings before they finish and drive straight to the nearest bottle shop. I have also tried Smart recovery and I am still going to a weekly meeting. Also tried drug & alcohol counselling multiple times, antidepressants, general counselling, psychotherapy, and psychiatrists. Nothing has worked. I did have 19 and a half months totally sober in 2010-2011 and managed that by a combination of weed and private prayer to a God as I imagined him.
