SWIM had their abscess lanced today and was given some Clindamycin antibiotics from a friend. SWIM cannot go to the doctor and get all of this on her insurance record as she is on her mom's insurance. Has anyone here ever taken Clindamycin for an abscess? If so, how many do you take a day? I researched it and it seems like pretty strong stuff with possible unpleasant side effects and is most often used for dental abscesses or people who are allergic to Penicillin.

Yes, that stuff works wonders for tooth abscesses. Please make sure that you aren't allergic to the antibiotic before taking it. It works and the side-effects are no different than any power anti-biotic. Make sure you consume yogurt to put the good bacteria back into your body that the clindamyacin destroys. You should always consult a doctor blah blah blah and it sounds like you have already made up your mind about doing so, the only thing I can say is to go read about this product and take everything people say here with a grain of salt because we aren't doctors. Be safe.

It works for the run of the mill abscess. Clindamycin is a very generic tried and tested antibiotic. You should heal up in 5-7 days but make sure you take ALL the pills the dr gave you. I know it will seem like everything is better and you will still have a few days of meds left. Just take them.. .all of them. Good Luck!
