After a few years of smoking/vaping a shit ton of herb nearly everyday, I decided to take a long breather and so far I've quit for a month. In that month, I've gained 10 pounds. It's strange...I'm not one to gain weight easily. I'm not worried about it but I found it odd since I eat less now if anything.

Nope, I haven't gained weight either way, and I try to eat 3k+ cals a day. My food intake remains pretty similar whether I smoke or not, as does what kind of food it is. Mapping out your eating patterns (time, what, and how much) could help point out why you've gained weight. So many other factors, like what you're doing with your spare time instead, can effect that too.

As a side note: smoking does affect your metabolism, it's a very differing degree for everyone though.

marijuana increases the heart rate, im not sure about this but i think the faster your heart beats the more calories you burn. this, in combination with perhaps some bad eating habits or lack of exercising might be the cause of your problem. also, i don't think there is any evidence to confirm this but judging by the way marijuana increases appetite it also probably increases metabolism. either way, the munchies are a side effect from pot because it interferes with your digestive system. i know for myself the more i smoke the more frequent my bowel movements are and the less regular i am. also my shit gets runny when i smoke a ton of bud.

but even still, its not going to make as big of a difference as your diet will. if your putting on weight your consuming more calories than you burn. honestly it could be a lot of things.

It does, and there is. I'm a bit to lazy right now to find a source or ten for you guys, but google is your friend. There is plenty of evidence that shows smoking increases metabolism for many people, to what degree, however, varies quiet a bit... but it's for exactly the reason you suggested, your heart rate increases causing extra calories to be burned. There are many, many other factors involved as well - this is just one of them.

I hope I don't gain weight, I'm about to give up the weed and in the last year I've already put on 110 pounds due to zyprexa!!
