anyone collect stems?

used to have a collection like the OP

i save my stems but i usually only save up about and 8th before i do a QWISO wash and 8th of stems usually makes 2-4 good hits o' hash

tea sounds nice but i liked oil, it smoked great n was surprisingly potent

also to the OP i would use a glass jar even for your stems cuz plastic bags used over long periods of time actually causes some kinda static electricity that robs you of what little kief/trichomes are on stems.

Next time you buy weed and have the baggy left over, there will be kief at the bottom of the bag and stuck to the sides...

It just happens, there is kief stuck to the sides.
 
^ yea i bet that has alot more to do witht he fact THC has adhesive properties than static electricity. Its like when u handle buds and your hands are sticky it is because THC is sticky not because of electricity.
 
yea i dunno that static electricity was the given reason but it is something about those damn bags and the point is that only a small amount is gonna be left on the bag but when you are storin alot of bud/stems for a long period of time it will be enough that you might wanna reclaim said 'stuck' kief and with a glass jar collection is much easier and possible where as Iso'in a plastic bag wont work as well
 
fair enough, I do see a couple resin glands in the bottom of the bag. I wouldn't go as far as saying the bag will "rob" you of the trichomes, you probably lose like 1% tops. I still make phenomenal oil with my bag full of stems and leaves. Better than any weed, hash, or oil I find elsewhere, and I smoke a lot of nice weed daily.
 
I just throw them away lol am such a waster. you should grind up those steams in a grinder with a screen. You should get some kief this way.
 
*to Drug*^ you make oil alot?

dont use those brands of butane you listed previously, use good atleast 4x refined butane such as Vector, colibri(the good colibri not the cheap colibri) , lucienne etc.

also as an oil head myself i recomend against telling people that making BHO is "very non-dangerous".

it can be very dangerous, one must always know what they are doing, how to do it, and be in a good frame of mind to not make stupid mistakes.

I'll agree with that, I probably jumped the gun on the non-dangerous part. After you've successfully completed the process a couple times it seems very easy and undangerous. This is the type of comfort that gets humans killed.

I don't make oil a lot per se, probably have made it a total of 10 times in my life(I'm only 23 and just started last year).

Is there a big difference from 3x to 4x refined butane? I buy triple refined butane from a nearby corner store, because they do not ask questions. I've not seen 4x refined butane for purchase yet, but would attempt to seek it out if it would be worthwhile.
 
yea no matter what get the best butane you can. anything with the 'Near Zero Impurities' stamp on it is good. but i have never seen a 3x with this stamp. just 4x n 5x. Vector is 5x+, whatever the + is suppossed to mean, i doubt they refine it an extra time n waste time n money but maybe it is more than 5.

anyways the only times i have gotten PRIMO quality "shatter" oil, has been with vector. even lucienne and colirbri and a few others i forget have made good oil but i notice a difference and try to only use vector unless i am really craving oil and my usual sources are out i will buy lucienne but .......go with the best and you wont regret it. especially if you are using good nugs to start out with you might as well use quality butane. anyways good luck in the future n happy oil makin/smokin
 
in your defense i have heard from other Canadians that gettin quality butane is tough but go on the internet if you cant find it at the headshop or smoke shop
 
the oil made from 3x is still really good, but thanks for the tip, there is always room for improvement.

I really really like BHO, it's a delicacy. One of the purest forms of THC you can smoke.

I'll have a look around my city for some vector.
 
trancetasy, do you think you could give us an estimate on how long it took you to collect that much and how much you smoke in a week/month(on average)? i've never saved up a 1/4 oz because like other people i always run out and end up using them like other people.... I vaporize them.
 
Actually it catching fire in the bowl is far from the worst thing that could happen. Butane is heavier than air and collects in pockets if there isn't sufficient airflow. Sparking a sufficiently dense air/butane mixture can cause a sufficiently violent explosion to kill or give you third degree burns, blow out your windows or even a portion of your house. This happens multiple times a month in northern california currently. To be safe you always want to do it outside with a fire extinguisher available, or at the very least a very well vented room with sufficient air movement far away from any source of flame. It's true that the big explosions I'm talking about don't come from someone doing a half ounce with a single can of butane... but is having a SMALL explosion acceptable? Just make it outside with reasonable precautions imo.

uhhh... let's see before i used to finish a half oz bag every two weeks for a few months. then i cut down to a quarter oz bag every two weeks for half a year. now i get a quarter oz bag to last me a month. =D
i guess people use them for oil/tea/etc. i've tried to vaporize before but it tasted like crap and gave me weird headrush :|
 
I save my stems, or at least did on my last 2 eights which lasted me 3 weeks each. when i run outta weed i use the stems as a base for a keif bowl. too bad i don't go through a lot of weed. daily smoker (only nighttime) and an eighth has been taking me 3 weeks to kill for months now. used to smoke a shitload though and toss all my stems. wish i saved them :(

Maybe you misunderstood, I didnt grind up the stems to smoke them, I grinded them up inside the jar, let them remain IN THE JAR, used hot water as the extraction method, yeah I know fat solubility crap but this worked, Poured the green water into a coffee filter, hold it untill all the water dripped out, let it sit and dry, and there was "hash" on it afterwards, pretty much just kief but it definately worked
 
I used to, when my mum found my stash there was a HUGE bag of stems that I reckons would of weighed atleast a half ounce. That was from too many different types of marijuana to count, I was going to make hash oil or something one day when I had a ridiculous amount but I had to throw them out. :(
 
lol stems I just chuck em away the THC is in the buds guys. ;) Seriously there is no real use in them. Only the trim off the bud is worth keeping, even then it takes a lot of trim to get a gram of hash. then again placebo is a strong mofo.
