anybody thinks there's something else out there? other life forms

It would be hard to imagine that a universe so vast and expansive would only be inhabited by us. There's a good discussion on UFO / aliens in the science & technology section.

Yes. Statistically it is 100% sure thing.. the Universe is fucking immense, there has to be at least 1 other planet out there with life. Maybe just bacteria, or maybe more, who knows. But given what we know it's retarded to think there isn't life out there!

I believe there is life "in here", in the realm of mind. Entities.

I'm sure there are countless energy-based, non-corporeal entities. But not so sure about 3D physical ones like us. For a long time I did believe, but not now.

I would agree, it seems statistically implausible that we are the only form of life that has evolved in the universe. Though I've heard the argument that the chance of the evolution of life through randomness is basically zero from proponents of intelligent design. I don't buy the intelligent design argument anyway but if their probability of random evolution is correct(I haven't done enough research to either confirm or deny it, maybe someone else on here has) I could see earth being the one "lucky" rock within the universe that overcame the odds.

Thomas Jefferson wrote a book (A LONNG time ago) saying that if you don't believe in aliens, even though we know each star is similar to our own sun. Then you have mental deficiencies.

I'm definitely supportive of the idea of other sentient beings. But keep in mind they may not bear much resemblance to anything we've imagined "alien life forms" to be like. I have a feeling they might even greatly stretch our idea of what "life" is. It's possible we have encountered extraterrestrial or otherworldly sentient beings already, but didn't even notice them, because we didn't know what to look for, and nothing about them triggered our ingrained sense of "I'm in the presence of something living".

When it comes to the universe, there really is no limit, literally. It is continuing to expand and is so large already that chances are life does exist that we're not aware of.

I dont understand how some ppl can completly deny the exsistence of intelligent alien life n the universe. To me that just seems ignorant and conceded to put themselves(and mankind based on their ideas) on such a high pedestle to think we are the only intelligent things n an ever expanding universe...what wud b ironic is if Ancient Astronaut theory is actually correct, those bitches who dont believe wud b anally probed 2 the point where they wud have 2 anuses!LMAO

Fear.

(unfounded fear, that is)

Unfounded why?

If there are Aliens out there, intelligent enough to have climbed the food chain and achieved interstellar travel, no doubt they would be more interested in wiping us out and stealing out planet than say, giving us all their technology.

no doubt they would be more interested in wiping us out and stealing out planet than say, giving us all their technology.

Why would there be "no doubt"? It could be the case that their ethics preclude slaughter of sentient beings. Or, more plausibly, it could be the case that our planet is so small and underdeveloped in comparison to such advanced beings that it is of no use to them...

So how do people here reckon with the Fermi paradox (that the probability of extra-terrestrial intelligences is likely very high, but we have not yet been contacted by any)?

But then also given the size of the visible universe, wouldn't we expect the emergence of extra-terrestrial intelligences that do have an inherent interest in other extra-terrestrial intelligences?

It could just be that faster-than-light travel is simply not viable in any sense, and we don't know how to decode their signals.

recorded human history is relatively short. they may have been here before, or they are (relative to us) taking their time. although the probability of their existence is quite high, there is nothing to say that they should have visited within the small period of several thousand years.

don't you think had they happened to come here in recent history it would be particularly fortuitous?

This would necessitate that technological societies tend not to be relatively enduring, then, meaning that they aren't around to send signals over a long period.

On a cosmic scale time wise our existence is small, I agree with L2R's point. The margin for alien interaction is very low.
I don't think FTL is possible. The distances between stars is too vast. A civilization could have existed on Mars and we might not possibly ever know.
