HI:

I'm VERY nauseous today (to the point of gagging) and I have managed most of my WD symptoms except for this one...are there any OTC medications (or herbal preparations) that help with nausea (that really work)? I used to have these blue-green capsules prescribed that worked really well, but ran out of those three kicks ago...

You'll probably need something prescribed if your nausea is serious. I've been using metaclopramide and prochlorperazine for my benzo sickness and they've worked pretty well - although they do tend to make me feel sedated.

Well I don't know if it helps so much with nausea, but taking Immodium which is an OTC anti-diarhial helps with the shits alot more than you would expect it to.

Diphenhydramine. May help you sleep as well, but tolerance to the sedation builds quickly.
Promethazine.
In fact lots of anti-histamines will, I prefer promethazine.
Ginger helps me with nausea.
When I was little my Moms used to give me flat lemonade or Coca-Cola for an upset tummy.

Do a search in OD or look in the OD DIrectory for the WD mEga thread, it will have lots of tips for you.

Thanks for the tips....I realized after I posted that this WAS probably a common problem and I should do a search (but that was this morning when I woke up)....sorry about that -- still new and keep forgetting to search first!!

Try some dimenhydrinate it's a OTC motion sickness anti-nausea drug. If you live in canada or other countries where you can get promethazine OTC you can try that too. Though ive never seen it at a drugstore here :X

Make sure to include a lot of salty foods in your diet during this period. Ie: bread, crackers, pretzels. It will help a lot more than you may think.

If the withdrawal is from opiates, then immodium can actually significantly lessen the withdrawal syndrome, as it actually is an opioid. It doesn't cross the blood brain barrier, but rather acts directly on mu-opioid receptors in the intestines. Just keep in mind that you will need to taper off immodium if you take it chronically for a while, unless of course you want horrible, nightmarish rebound diarrhoea.

No way, me too!

It's great if you need to do some spring cleaning down there. Just be sure to drink a LOT of water during the two days of gastrointestinal horror. Or taper; either way's great really.

Try cannabis. It helps with most forms of nausea. If you are trying to stay away from any illegal drug however, you may want to try dimenhydrinate, diphenhydramine, or meclizine though they only help certain types of nausea.

Defintely promethazine or metaclopramide (one can get metoclparamide OTC, its called Anagraine- with APAP though and in Australia only).

a lot of antihistamines have anti-emetic (anti nausea) properties - cyclizine, diphenhydramine, promethazine.

if you are doing a doctor supported detox, then try get your hands on some Ondansetron Hcl (brand name Zofran). its a lot more powerful than the medication you can get over the counter, and works wonders. it is quite expensive though, so not sure if your local government subsidises it at all. if so, you're in luck.
