any harm from smokin with alumiminum foil..?

somtimes my friends and i dont have a bowl or papers so we came up wit an idea i call the "mcgiver(sp) bowl ",where you take a piece of aluminum foil and fold it in half and roll it on a pen or pencil pull off and bend the end like a little bowl,i mean it works GREAT ,hits great and you can make it to where it will hold a ton of bud,plus you can just crumble it up and toss it if the need arrives...with no loss of money or whatever

but some people have started tellin me that aluminum foil is un healthy to smoke wit, i mean ...is this true ,or are they just being a prick cause they didnt think of the idea...?
 
Aluminum oxide is linked to Alzheimers - and smoking from aluminum foil most likely means you are inhaling some aluminum oxide vapours.

However - they put that shit in a lot of things you are likely to be consuming on a daily basis - so no one truly knows the impact of using an aluminum bowl.

However, my feeling is "better safe than sorry" - as Alzheimers is a pretty damn horrible disease and one that won't develop untill much later in life when you most likely aren't even smoking any more.

no offence or anything dont take this the wrong way and im not saying u said this, but you didnt didnt make up that mcgiver thing idea, its been around for ages. ive used it on homemade bongs when i havent had a cone peice handy. and it cant be any more harmfull than smoking weed.

you would think they would fuckin come out with sum type of smokeable metal sheet substance.. lol

btw... freebasing resin on foil is the best thing when u scrape yer bowls!
 
There's been "studies" to say smoking with foil can cause Alzheimers and then the opposite. But either way it's terribly bad for you.. It will lead to things such as ulcers quite easily. You can definately taste and feel the bad vapours being inhaled into your lungs after the second or third hit. I would not recommend this at all!
 
yeah foil ain't good, just go and buy yourself a pipe, u can get some pretty good one's for around $10 Aus down here, compact so u can take them anywhere, just be sure to buy some pipe screens :)

Yeah, adding another substance which some studies have correlated with Alzheimers can't be any worse than smoking alone.

funny...I was studying for a material science test the other day and my book said aluminum was useful for food products because It is not toxic. It also said that alimnum doesn't oxidize very well.

now I'd always thought smoking off of foil was pretty bad, but then I had doubts after reading that. I'm still willing to bet though that it is bad because that book isn't considering charring foil in their "non-toxic" statement and not considering fire in their "not-easily oxidized" statement
 
Nor are they considering direct inhalation of the vapours coming off the foil as it burns off the more volatile chemicals contained in it (foil is obviously far from being pure aluminum).

All things considered - better safe than sorry - but do remember that you are only slightly lowering your aluminum oxide intake by cutting out the foil. Tons of every-day products are loaded with the stuff.

u must be shopping in the ghetto to get an aluminum bowl.... im pretty sure if its metal its stainless steel.. k thx :P
 
use a foilie when you REALLY have to, but try to avoid it... you CAN taste it and it does burn and stuff, producing smoke, that of which could easily be mistaken..... im not fully degrading its use... ill use anything i can get my 'grubby little hands on', but i prefer my glass piece when it is present.... which is almost always when i have herb
 
could someone tell me how you make a gravity bong without using foil over the cap of the 2 liter? it's the only way I know how.
 
I don't know what they are called in English - but get one of those bolt type bits that you use to unscrew the bolts from the wheels on your car. They come in sets of different sizes but you can buy individual ones - the kind of look like bowls and that is how we will use them =D

Get a 12mm or 13mm piece - I prefer the 13mm. Put a metal screen in it (bought at any headshop) and put a layer or two of soft tape on the base for insulation - then it fits very snugly into the top of a soda bottle.

this is the ultimate gravity bong plan:

you need

1 glass slide bowl/cone (9mm or Graffix style)
1 "sport" bottle cap (this is the kind of bottle cap that you can pull on the nipple thing and then sqeeze the bottle and get water) that fits your 2 liter
1 two liter bottle

take the squeeze bottle cap and pull apart the nipple bit from the base. the base should have a bit of plastic in the center that seals the cap if the nipple was on. break this center piece out. then put the nipple back on the base. now if you used the cap water would just run right out.

hopefully the stem of the bowl will fit in the hole of the nipple. the cap i found fit the bowl pefectly.

cut the bottom off of the 2 liter and screw the cap on. you're set. for added sickness, attatch a tube from the bowl stem that goes into the water (should extend a little more than 1/2 down the 2 liter bottom) this will cause the smoke to be filtered, making it much easier to handle the hits.

i used to rip this thing as my regular piece.. it was so gross it had its own corner of the room on a towel and bunch resin (from clearing the bowl with a poker) and weed stems and other random bits on it.

using a gravity bong really tears up your lungs though.. i recommend only using on rare occasions

My parents were smoking foil before I was even born I doubt you invented it ;) I know what you mean though;)
