There are a couple of threads going - am curious whether there are any genetic engineers in the house? Especially any in the Netherlands or anywhere cannabis is legal....

fwiw this is in reference to the genetic engineering of cannabis with regards to the techniques disclosed on http://greenstonepatent.com (the top link on the page goes to the USPTO site with some highly technical stuff...)

Also does anyone have any recommendations for genetic engineering forums? I gather this is more of an end-user site, albeit a very well informed end-user site from the looks of things...

are we talking breeding or something completely different?

Either way, id love to see a peyote/marijuana plant one day for novelty sake.

I have no idea what they are trying to patent, but something I've always thought would be fun is to clone a fluorescence gene into cannabis. Weed that glows in the dark would be awesome. Been done with tobacco.

shepj - where is advanced discussion?

FrostyMcFailure - this is modern genetic engineering as opposed to traditional mendelean genetics (ie breeding....) so in short yes - a peyote cannabis cross of some sort should be feasible... and badass....

belvedere4i - we've patented the process of extracting DNA from cannabis and inserting it into other organisms... (beat the big pharmaceuticals to it too :) and bioluminescence to ganja should be doable, although I'm personally fairly wary of consuming genetically modified stuff... nonetheless it should be doable and gorgeous :)
