This is only new to me, I'm sure many of you have written rhymes before, but I haven't and I really want to try. I was wondering just if any of you had anything to say about it, it looks difficult but great.... a new type of challenge.
Maybe if anyone else is looking to try something new... you can try writing to different types of music, I know that I can't write poetry well with music playing because I mix up my words with the lyrics. But instrumental hip hop or jam band type stuff would work perfectly.
If anyone is inerested too in writing rhymes with me that'd be awesome.
Much Peace & Love to all of you. :)

i used to write only in rhyme. When i finally tried free verse, it was so much easier! i could write and write without figuring out how to make things rhyme and my words came out uninhibited, honest. i've been writing like that ever since.
you want to do the opposite. i really dont have any suggestions. sometimes writing down a list of words you want to use and then finding words to rhyme with them helps. i could NEVER write to music, it distracts me (everything does!) but its worth a try.
let us know how it goes! :)

Yes, i have some advice.
After you have you topic in your head, go ahead and write it in prose. Say everything and anything you like. This is the way you are most used to writing, and you will be able to get thoughts out quickly and in volume.
Okay, so you wrote on your topic in prose, don't look at it for a few days.
Now, re-read it, and condense it in free verse. Get rid of all those useless details, highlight the good details.
Okay, so you wrote on your topic in free verse, don't look at it for a few days.
Now, re-read the free verse, and re-work it to rhyme. You'll have to come up with new words for the same emotion, and drop even more details, that don't fit.
Give it a try!

^^^^great method, i've tried that and it works nicely.
i normally do not like rhymes because they somehow turn out nursery-rhymish if writen by an inexperienced writer.
however, there is a way around that.
don't TRY to make it sound like a song.
experiment with different rhyming styles. like... aabbcddeec or abccabdd etc...
the abab or aabb style is so overused and sounds childish.
also, take advice from rappers/freestylers: rhyme entire words: conversation, temptation, relaxation, situation... and repeat the rhyme until you feel it is time to stop :)
stay away from short words. they are boring and elementary.
switch up the structure of your sentences... instead of "i love you" try "it is you i love" (very basic examples, but they get the point across)
just remember, "roses are red volets are blue sugar is sweet and so are you" was cute in 3rd grade... ;)

How to fire off free style like billy the kid
first of course, make sure your head is well fed
cause we all know that your brains needin bread
ATP and some carbs...
like science class said
ya science sticky tricky, add a verb, litterate that shit
obliterate to bits
my stress flicks a bic
like anger anounced or a fun fight is facicious
see I alliterate adverbs
sweet sex ain't for jesus
can you say a tangent
I can and I did
and I do whatever, your grandma gave me head
ed is dead the rhyme has been fed
so the key be creative
add 2 parts fluid flow
rhymes steal and recycle
and remember we joke
hoped that this helped
but I wish that I don't
crushed and put in my crack pipe
your thoughts I will smoke

You guys are all helping a lot... thanks for the advice. It's going ok so far. I realized that I can't switch off rhyming about diferent things like my friends to, I start a story and end sticking to it but its cool. When my first one is done ill post it and id love to know what u all think. Thanks so much again!

I do and I am, but like I said its new. i write a lot of poetry, thats why whats posted now isnt rhymes, im working on it.

i am agreeing with e-girl. we both share a similiar writing style. on the contrary of what fun guy says about extracting detail, i find that all the details give for more to write about, and then finding it easier for small 'rhymes and catchy phrases'.
although, you may just be looking for rhymes. :)
just thought i'd add that.
late

boy, people can sure talk alot about doing something.
just start writing. write evryday, for a few hours. try all kinds of different things. each piece you write will have a different feel to it, you'll need to make changes every time you pick up a pen. don't fence yourself in.
