Entomophobia, aversion towards insects.. couldn't really pinpoint where that went, so I posted this in the anxiety section. I don't hate bugs I don't have any panic attacks, I just really dislike them but I don't know when this even started. But this is usually the case towards cockroaches, really big moths and 10cm diameter spiders. Small bugs I could take them outside.I'm just really confused of.. what is it that I have? because I don't have panic attacks, but I do have this discomfort when theres a big insect nearby. Something else unusual is when I am warmed up or have just played a game of basketball I don't actually fear bugs or gain discomfort (unless I face a venomous spider), its as though I'm more relaxed But when I've been on my computer for the whole day, I flinch when I see a cockroach on the wall nearby So.. what is it that I have? and how do I tackle this issue?

johns wort depression

I have a fear of arachnids as well. I am also curious how to tackle this issue as it has been a big problem in my life. Knowing that a spider is in my room almost paralyzes me from doing anything other than avoiding the spider especially big ones. Wolf spiders are the worst they scare the shit out of me. Even after killing one its all that I can do to pick up the remains and dispose of them. I don't know what causes it... I don't consider myself a fearful person but for some reason spiders freak me out. I'm serious when I say I'd rather face a hungry lion rather than handle a tarantula.

You guy (/girls) have nothing to be ashamed about. Aversion to insects and spiders is a natural inborn trait that protects you from getting killed by them. The trick to overcoming the "irrational" aspect of the fear is to note when they are actually dangerous and when they are innate and harmless.

For example I don't have a phobia (read irrational fear) of snakes. If however I see a live snake looking to bite me I will naturally move away. Likewise if you see a spider or insect that you don't know that could be posinous it is wise to retreat. What is important to note is that an insect or archanid can't bite you through a cloth, and you can safely and easily kill and dispose of it. In fact it is wiser to kill it or remove it when it can't bite you than letting it survive in your home and precipitate an attack.

Anything you are afraid of (from heights to drowning to getting killed by a bear) is reasonable due to your evolutionary mechanisims. Just be sure you aren't being irrational and deal with rational problems as rationaly as you can.
