Anxiety problem... looking for some insight

My heart goes out to everyone on here experiencing anxiety. I have diagnosed general anxiety and social anxiety disorders, and it effects my life every day, and I don't really like saying it but it so far has ruined my life really. There's so much I've missed out on in the past from it. I've had the odd panic attack in the past, but I don't really get them anymore. I just basically have a constant state of anxiety which fluctuates a bit.

Just on the benzos, like most people have said, unfortunately they aren't really the answer, and for me the main reason is how quick tolerance builds. I think if a benzo could be used every day with the same effect then that would be a different story. And it's also unfortunate because the truth is they are extremely effective for anxiety. I'm currently prescribed only 4mg diazepam daily (along with an SSRI) for my anxiety. I've been prescribed diazepam for 2 years now for anxiety, but also probably more so today for my 6 year long addiction to it.

My diazepam addiction reached 150mg a day. At another point my very shorter klonopin addiction reached about 12mg a day. And at another point my xanax use was around 20mg a day. And this is the trouble, bad anxiety + benzo use usually ends up to be bad benzo use, which leads to even more mental health troubles in the long term, as I've had to learn the hard way :\

Taking anything for anxiety is a trap IMO. If you have anxiety all you can do is simply learn to deal with it. Learning the proper techniques to diffuse anxiety will allow you not to get tripped up or trapped in your thoughts anymore. It will not completely halt anxiety but its better than being fucked on chemicals 24/7 unless thats your bag. Benzos are pretty easy to get trapped up in and once there its pretty annoying/difficult to get out as benzos will only heighten and lengthen your anxiety/panic attacks as it causes rebound anxiety once the chemical/s have left your body most times. Anxiety is terrible, believe me I know, especially if you have a consistent or constant style but like I stated previously, best you can really do is learn to wrestle with it mentally. All those thoughts/pressures can be pushed away and/or back, it just takes time, sometimes a great length of it to learn how/what will work best for you.
